So I had had it with the Oil Can finish on my new Vokeys. We play early mornings and the rust was unbearable. I dried them after every shot, but FL mornings are just too wet. So I decided to do something about it.

Today I coked them. Diet Pepsi'd them to be exact. Left in the sink for 2 hours, and then rub down lightly with sponge, and now they have a gorgeous raw finish.

I am actually taking them to a friend of mine that is going to put a nickel looking chrome on it for me. No glare and not the same rust issues. I cannot wait.

haha... I dont believe you can do this one at home

you can send it away to a service to get chromed up, there are several places that do it (golfworks.com) does a decent job on chrome restorations

Can you do that with the "black satin" finishes too? Because I have a TaylorMade TP black wedge that is already loosing its black finish from so much use.

I'm pretty sure the "coking" process only works on the oil can finishes since they are not plated.

Oil Can Vokey wedge does rust

after the Oil Can coat is gone. Some people don't like the rust and in order to remove that, they "coke" it. That's what raw finish is called, the state where there's no finish. It's the color of steel. Then it'll rust again overtime. Rinse and repeat for raw wedge lover.

Nothing but sticky clubs. Chrome finish can't be stripped with only coke. You need to remove it with some sort of acid fluid, which in the end ruins the club to most DIY'ers. Not to mention losing fraction of the club head weight.

Yeah, coke will do nothing to chrome. As for the black TMs, I dont know what the effect will be. The reason I did mine, was because they are 2 months old and the rust was everywhere. I really thought I would like to vintage look, but I was afraid of rust spreading to other clubs.
