I just recently went to the range and have been trying to find what I have been doing wrong on My drives. I have always hit in between what I would consider a hook and a fade. So today I decided to take a more closed face grip and it reduced my fade and even went dead on b@ll$ straight at 200+ yds. The Thing Is I dont want to go forever with changing my grip.

So My question is:
1)What training aids would help me
2)What of the following could be effecting my hook/fade is it:
a.Wrist
b.Coming from outside in
c.stance
d.elbow bend

My personal opinion is that I have "no swing." By that I mean, I dont have a consistant swing. I was also wondering if I should take lessons before I get into a bad consistent swing. Or should I get a bad consistent swing so I can have something That A Instructor Can work with. Man those straight shot felt great

you are asking all the right questions, I would work on the basic golf swing by working on the chipping and pitch shots within 30 - 50 yards. Don't practice with the driver until you can hit solid pitch shots. just my 2 cents.

I too need a bit of help or advice. I am back into golf after a 7 year absence where i did not touch a club (my wife has been fighting cancer during this period). I used to set up with a closed stance and take it inside. I have been getting caught back on my right side and do not seem to have club head speed or have a good finish.

The other day I tried to swing more like Nicklaus, chicken wing at the top, take club back with good extension and feel I was building up power. I also weaken my grip from very strong to strong. Doing this I got my weight transferred and developed darn good club head speed. I do not feel the club dropping into the slot; in fact the swing seems to be a bit more one plane IMHO.

Any thoughts on why this swing change other than the weight transfer is working for me? My ballflight is higher and I can draw or fad,e where i used to hit a consistent draw; so I can still work the ball as needed.

Thanks for your thoughts and have a great week.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
