Is this something I can be fitted for? More to the point, would having my swing analyzed be able to determine what would work better for me and be a diffinitive answer? I was given my first set of irons four years ago, and then won my current set last year at an outing. The first set was graphite the second set is steel.

Most of the people I play with swing steel, and give me guff that I'm considering going back to graphite next year. The reasoning they use is that I'm 29 and swing hard (they say), so I should use steel shafted irons.

I've spent a lot of time looking at reviews and trying different clubs at Demo Days. I'm down to the Taylor Made R7 CGB or the Callaway X20 irons, this is the set of irons I will play wth for a while so I want to make sure I do it right.

So is there a rule of thumb on what shaft suits a golfer best, or is it something that needs to be annalyzed?

Here are a couple threads discussing/debating this.

Graphite Irons Graphite/Steel Shafts for Irons? You'll find this comment in the 2nd thread along with more of mine
Common myths associated with graphite irons shafts Graphite shafts are for old people - Not True, as mentioned above graphite shafts in irons offer many advantages when compared to steel All graphite iron shafts are cheap quality - Not True, like steel shafts, they are offered in a wide array of quality. This statement came about because golf club manufacturers will use cheaper quality shafts inorder to save cost and profit margins Graphite shafts are not as accurate as irons - Not True, if you were properly fitted this wouldn't be an issue.

    • Wow that was disingenuous. Like, let’s ignore that golfers actually rotate. It isn’t all side bend. Has incorrect or excessive side bend hurt golfers sure. In no way are golfers taught to just fling their hips towards the target. To basically claim it’s him versus this evil golf instruction industry is just disingenuous.

    • I'm starting to move with some speed and confidence. Carried the fairway bunker 225 yards out on the 17th yesterday fairly comfortably. I don't think it was a one off drive either. Pretty much back to game speed. On another note it doesn't seem like my pelvis is nearly as thrusty compared to a this time last year. I hope I'm judging that correctly. It's an ongoing battle.
