If looking for a little more control, how low can you go? My driver comes with a 45.75" shaft. BUT, cutting down a shaft also changes the balance/kick points, yes? I'm thinking about re-shafting with a Prolaunch red, but also thought I could cut my current one down a little to see what happens first. Much cheaper option..

Not worried about losing distance as I'm 250+ off the tees and don't *think* an inch is going to kill me there..

Help an ignant 20 handicapper out!

Thanks!

I neither have distance but accuracy problems off the tee with the driver. Gripping down really helps and wont cost you distance - quite the opposite - you will increase your average distance cuz you hit better shots.

I hit my irons/wedges this year around 1 - 1 1/2 clubs longer than last year and that increase is not from strength but pure technique and more solid shots - so a well struck iron/driver has a huge advantage over semi solid shots with maxed out shaft lengths...

Good points for sure. My swing sucks but gets a little better every game. Thanks for the push.. I got it cut down and re-griped a few hours ago.

yah, i just gripped down or choked for a while to regain control. been hitting better and gripping at the end of the shaft again for maximum clubhead speed.

Just out of curiosity, a couple of weeks ago I found and purchased a "Perfect Driver" brand driver. I was having some trouble with my driver, and rather than cutting mine down, this one is about 1/4" shorter than my 3 wood and has 11.5 degrees of loft. I imagine it's basically equivalent to a 2 wood back in the day. Anyway, I was able to hit it straighter than my driver and I ended up getting within 5-10 yards of my average driver distance. Of course, from time to time I will rip my driver 20 yards past my average, which I don't think I could get out of this club, but the consistency it provided me (vs my driver) was very refreshing.
