This has probably been posted before but here goes anyway. What do you think the old guys like Bobby Jones, Walter Hagan, Harry vardon or even guys not that old like a young Arnie or Nicklaus would have played like with todays equiptment. I mean these guys hold records that still stand today, could you imagine what they could have done with a BIG BERTHA or a SASQUATCH or todays ODYSSEY or SCOTTY putters. Even the balls that we use today. What would the record record books be like today?

I don't think the record would be much different, I mean the reason that they set those records, was because they were used to the club, and they used them with great intelligence. I mean it could be a little better, but I don't think it would be by much.

And I'm just wondering what is it with you and spelling some words with all caps?

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

First of all, total wins or majors won wouldn't change, because everyone was using the same equipment. Alot of the courses have been made to be alot tougher now in relation to the advancement of equipment, but I'm sure alot of the greats could have put up some really low scores with some of today's equipment.

SQ Dymo2 10.5
SQ Dymo2 15
a2 3-PW
Tom Watson Wedges 52, 56, 60 Unitized Retro 33"

I do that when I use name brands or names, just my thing I guess.

I think the records/normal scores would be around 1-3 strokes lower. The old equipment made you have to be a better swinger and have less errors, as I once had a set of Ben Hogan Apex Plus irons w/stiff steel shafts and they forced me to become a better swinger, as they DID NOT like toe hits.

I understand that those guys were magicians with the equipment that they had. However, I am reminded of the scene in THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE when they said that they stopped play for twenty minutes to measure JUNUH's drive. Now I realize that the movie is fiction, however I am sure that these things like measuring long drives, etc. happened. So lets say that BOBBY JONES , who is known for his beautiful drives, would have been using a BIG BERTHA 460cc driver and PRO V1. He could have been the long drive champ of all time. I know I am speculating, but it is fun to imagine.

I think that things would remain closer than one may believe.

As noted, the playing field was all using simular technology.

The courses were set up with those limitations in mind.

It is all relative.
909D Comp 9.5* (house MATRIX OZIK XCON-6)
Burner Superfast 3 & 5 woods (house MATRIX OZIK XCON-4.8)
G15 Hybrid 23* (AWT shaft)

Can't help but think if we made all of today's players use the old equipment, i.e. blades, that the same guy would end up winning every time he showed up to play.

Ditto if we transported some highly engineered clubs back to the 1950s in a time machine and gave it to the players back then. Can't help but think the same guys would be winning each week. Sure the winners would be hitting it further, perhaps even straighter, but so would the losers...
