Went out to my "practice course" today and got paired up with two older gentlemen. Don and Gordon had been playing together for 25 years or so and they are good buddies ... All is going well as we proceed to the third hole, a short par 3 ... we are all on the green in regulation (for older gents these guys weren't half bad ... ) Gordon is standing over his birdie put ... kinda just sways a little, steps away goes to his bag for a drink of water and COLLAPSES CLUTCHING HIS CHEST!!

THANK GOD I had my cell phone on me ... called 911, called the club house got Gordon the help he needed (and we are pretty sure it was in time, he never lost conscientiousness, and he was responsive and alert when the EMTs got there) ... Don tried to finish the round with me, but quit after that hole. Talking to him I found out that the two of them had just lost two of their other playing partners in the last month ... they had all been friends for over 30 years or so ... such a sad, sad story that kinda put every thing into perspective there and then ...

But the good news, I proceeded to play at 3 over for the rest of the round ... had a great round ... must have been the Karma coming back to me.

My wife’s grand father died on the golf course.

He had a heart attack months earlier, and was under some kind of new treatment (this was in the early 70's). His recovery was nothing short of a miracle. His doctor(s) told him he was completely cured, and they were going to write papers for the medical journals about his case.

He was on the golf course (and this is NO LIE) with a doctor and a priest. On the third hole he mentioned that he felt kind of "funny", and on the fourth tee he dropped over dead!

There is a golf joke in there somewhere...

That's crazy. I'm not sure I would have been with it enough to do what you did or to finish the round. I would have been way too shaky to finish the round. On a similar note a guy here at work said his brother was at the Ohio State game on Saturday and the guy in front of him had a heart attack and died right there in the stands. Glad to hear the guy was doing ok. Have you heard from his buddy yet to see how he's doing?

Kudos to you.

Still, I can think of worse ways to go than keeling over on a golf course at a ripe old age.

Kudos to you.

Yes that's not a bad way to go, but I would rather be shot by the husband of my 22 year old lover after he caught her and I in bed when I was 95 :)

Or get stuck in a rotating door with the girls from "the girls next door" and be smothered by their...well you know

i work at a grocery store, and this guy had a heart attack pushing a cart he cluctched the cart so hard when he fell back the cart came with him and it was laying ontop of him and he was still holding it, the emts said he was dead before he hit the ground, and i tried to help him and get the cart off him, and I had to literally pry his fingers off the cart, its really wierd to see that kinda stuff happen infront of you, i was shakey all day, def couldnt have finished a round of golf after that, not sure

It is so scary to think jsut how quickly these types of things can happen ... I do not have an update on Gordon, I am not sure I ever will, unless I hear about it at the course ...

I do have to admit, going on the golf course isn't a bad way ... but, I too have to vote for the being shot in bed by the husband/boyfriend/father of that smokin' hot 22 year-old when I am 95!

    • Yeah.  As far as remaining still, I was thinking body rotates around the spine like an axis.  Instead of pivoting, some like me, sway, come off that axis, leave weight on back foot, etc.
    • I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄
    • The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.
    • Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.
    • Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.
