Hey guys,

Just wanted to share my personal best round and my first below 90!

I shot 86 today from the whites (6200).

44(13)/42(15)

I was even par on 15th through the back nine and shot 3 double bogeys to end with a 42. Just the thought of breaking 40 made me play poorly.

Anyways I am very happy with my progress, my goal was to break 90 before completing my second year of playing and I made it. I think I owe it to my new vokey wedges, I was leaving short putts for par all day.

I only hit 3 fairways and 4 greens, but short game was on with 28 putts.

As always I can only think of how many shots I left!! I hit 3 in the water from the tee!

1 birdie
6 pars
7 bogeys
4 double bogeys

Hopefully I will start shooting 80's more and more and get my handicap down near 15!

Thanks for reading!

I loveee this game!

Great job!! Great feeling to start breaking 100 regularly and then to break 90 and so on regularly. Its always nice to show all the hard work and investments in clubs really do something for your game.

Congrats. I'm making my way down under 90 as well. Last time out I needed to birdie the Par 5 18th to shoot an 89. I hit my nicest drive of the day right down the middle of the fairway and then proceeded to pull a 4 iron from 200 yards out to the far left.
I had about a 25 yard pitch over a small pine to the green with a bunker between the tree and the green. Of course I left the shot short and it landed in the bunker so my hopes were gone for birdie. I chipped on and 4 putted for a triple bogey, my only triple all day.
I should have hit 5 iron, because I was puring it the enitre back 9 with my 5, but figured I needed the extra yardage. I tried to hit it too hard and that caused me to pull it.
Live and learn.

Oh yeah, I also have a 60* Vokey on the way, and am still in the process of finding a 54*.

Congrats!!! That is a great accomplishment. I heard a a crazy number like over 80% of golfers never shoot below 100%. Not sure how accurate that is. I'm sure when you shot 86 you were in the zone and very relaxed, not thinking of anything. I hope you break 80 soon!!!

Just curious, how did you shoot your next round?

The reason I ask is that I have been playing for 2 years now. The game didn't take me too long to pick up because I played varsity tennis in college. I'm actually left handed, but play right because of my tennis two-hand backhand. My best after playing about 9 months was 79 from the blues at Trilogy in Palm Springs. I was in the zone and not thinking of anything and couldn't miss. No double bogeys the entire day and would drain putts off the fringe, 20-footers, just relaxed and smooth. Next day, you build confidence, try to swing harder and the "Golf Gods" take it right from under you. I played PGA West the next day and shot a 103. That's the game we love...lol

Now I'm "consistently inconsistent." I have gone through so many thoughts like keeping my spine straight, my head down, etc. Only thing I think of (since I can't avoid thinking of nothing) is keeping my club "Same way up, Same way down." That helps me on tempo.

FACT: If the pros can shoot 69 one day and 86 the next (difference of 17), it's not bad when we shoot an 84 one day and 101 the next, right? Just to put things in perspective...

Thanks,
Erwin

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
