Hey guys, I've finally got the chance to get a few videos of my swing. Take a look and give me tips/comments on what I need to work on, if you would.

I wanted to get some other videos of my mid-short irons but forgot.
Btw, only have been playing for a year so take it easy on me lol.

looks very smooth, but i'm gonna take a guess and say you drive the ball about 240 on a good drive (which is awesome) and probably a 7 iron about 150...how close am i

well all i can see is maybe slow down your backswing a little cause it's making your head pull up at the top and then hold your follow through a little further

There is a lot going on good, but quickly, here is the main thing which will help in my view. You are reverse pivoting which is a common swing fault, caused by the right leg straightening. In your setup position, kick your knees in toward each other and feel the weight on the insides of your feet. Keep your right knee kicked in and flexed...you will add instant power to your swing by doing so.

As an aside, if you post videos on swingacademy, it's a lot easier to view.

Oreo, you are pretty much dead on with those numbers. Good guesses lol. One thing I have a tendency to do is to end my follow through very abruptly which is probably not good as you mentioned.

Mr Wedge, I will be uploading to that site within the next couple minutes. I didn't now about that site. I'll try that recommendation out cause I can use some more power :)

(waiting for admin to change the videos for me since its too late for me to)

i definetly agree with mr.wedge about keeping that right knee bent. i am a small guy 5' 4" and about 125 pounds but i still average my drives around 285 and i carry my 7 iron about 180 yards.

Check out my right knee in this video of my swing and watch the follow through here is the link:

okay my link didn't work but go on youtube and search "new and improved driver swing" my username is mtx950015

I'll definitly go to the range and work on the right knee bend and keeping a follow through.

Btw Oreo's, are you a fellow car audio fan as well? Hence your youtube user name?

Here are the videos on Swing Academy:

Here's a pic of your reverse. Take a little time and study it. Note the hips tilted up due to the right leg straightening and the torso tilted toward the target. Ouch! This will cause lower back strain, not to mention all sorts of mis hits.

Think of reaching into the picture and pulling that right knee toward you and a bit toward the target, thinking of what that will do to your torso. It will cause your hips to level up and bring your head back away from the target. At the top, the head should be over the inside of your right thigh. You are leaving your head in place and swaying the hips away from the target. There are two different ways to address this. You can preset your head over your right thigh at address, or you can allow your head to move to the right as you backswing.

It is going to be difficult to break the leg straightening habit, but you are young and should be able to do it ok. It will make your swing feel restricted somewhat, but that is a good restriction. Just go back to that taut spot and let it unwind from that braced right leg and the INSIDE of the right foot. As you get more comfortable with it you can add more backswing if you wish, but you are always best to swing well within yourself IMO. Fix this and your accuracy as well as power will improve.

I see exactly what you're talking about Mr Wedge. I'm going to go to the range tomorrow and try to work on that problem. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Just got back from the range and it went a completely different direction than expected.

One of my co-workers out there came out to watch me on the range and he was teaching me the one plane swing and I gotta say after a couple swings, it felt great. I added about 10 yards onto every club with the swing and about 50 yards with the driver. I only hit 5 drives but 4 of them carried an easy 250-270 so with some roll that'll be great. I almost carried a drive in the pond about 285! I'm going out to play tomorrow morning so I'll try to shoot a video of my new swing. Hopefully the range swing comes over with me tomorrow morning.

I couldn't/still can't believe how easy and efficient this swing is.

    • Good progress. I am finally feeling like I am settling my weight into my right foot earlier in the backswing. Right hip sinks back, right leg feels staying flexed. Feeling very stable and firm in the right leg. I feel like I could do a good squat with that right leg. Very balanced.
    • oops, forgot Pebble Beach and Spyglass.  And two more of the original Open rota, Prestwick and Musselburgh (with hickory shafted rentals).  And Muirfield.  And maybe a few more, I'll check my list when I get home.
    • Day 189 2-20 Really focused on rotating the forearms today with wrist arched. Did some single arm swings as well.
    • In March of 1978 I got to play Pebble Beach GC. Played it from the back tees, since I knew I'd probably never play it again. Oops, shot 102.  Three weeks later, I played Torrey Pines - South, again from the back tees (maybe 6,700 yds in those days). Shot an 87, and missed a birdie putt on the lakeside No. 18 green. In 2021, I played TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities area. This is site of the John Deere Classic. It was early October and the course was undergoing renovation, so I got to play the front nine twice for $110, lunch included. The course was great and the driving range was unbelievable. Hint: you need to pay attention to the wind drafts before you try to challenge the cross bunkers! BTW, Deere Run is a public course. Norwood Hills Country Club is site of the Champions tour event, the Ascension Charity Classic, now the Stifel Charity Classic. This classic layout has 36 holes. This summer I hope to play the West course where the Champions event is held; Missouri Golf Association is sponsoring an amateur event there.  I have played the shorter East course three times - it's quirky but quite fun. Also: Circa 2000 I played il Picciolo, a course at the base of Mount Etna in Sicily. The volcano was spewing ash that week. The course frequently hosts European pro events. Lots of elevation change and gently rippling fairways. Left a 7i shot 10 yards short of green on one par 5. Turns out the hole had a 12-foot high alpine flagstick, and I was not as close to the green as I thought I was (bad perspective).
    • Just the Plantation course at Kapalua. Not like I didn't know it, but it was a visceral reminder of how ridiculously good the tour pros are. That course is f***ing *hard* playing it from ~6500 yards. From the tips!? Then if there's wind?!
