I'm not sure how it is in other parts of US but in southern california you occasionally run into these 5-somes who just ruins the entire round of golf. And it's always that 5-some group hit the balls to the bushes and spends like 10mins looking for it. From my experiences, the average round takes about 5:30~ to 6 hours when there's 5-some group in front of you. You hit a ball and wait for 5~10mins, and it's hard to get into the groove. i really don't understand why would any course allow 5-some to begin with and i really don't understand why anyone would want to play with 4 other people and spend 6 hours on the course. sometimes i feel like some of these people feel obligated to find that 5th person.
Golf courses should BAN 5-somes.

I don't know of any courses here in Oregon that will allow you tee off as a fivesome.

But I have known people to tee-off in consecutive groups of 2 and 3 and then unofficially join forces a few holes out.

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

I would generally agree with you, but we played as a fivesome this weekend.

We finished in 3.5 hours and were on the asses of the 3some in front of us the whole time.

The only difference was probably that we all play the course regularly so we all knew our distances on each shot.

Yeh. Slow play, multiplied by 5 is terrible. I usually try to get off the first tee by 8am on the weekends. Otherwise, I'm looking at a long day. Bleh. I've got shiznit to do besides golf, y'know?.

Well, occasionally there are some 5-some that are pretty fast paced. But i guess i've been running into one of those 5-somes that has 1 or 2 hackers or 1 or 2 guys who take 20 practice swings and then step back and take another 20 practice swings and then hit the ball out of bounce.

Also to avoid the 5somes, i usually to play really early in the morning but i'm still pissed from this past saturday when we teed off at 7am and finished at little over 12 because of the 5 some right in front of us.

I was wondering why you needed to be on the asses of a threesome that played 18 in 3-1/2 hours? Seems like they were playing pretty quickly themselves. The only time we try to play faster than that is when we are the first group out or later in the day when no ones in front of us. I do agree that if a fivesome can keep up and the course allows them, there's nothing wrong with it.

We werent trying to be on the asses of the group in front of us and its not like we didnt give them their space, but it is kind of funny when 3 of us have handicaps similar to mine and the other 2 are basically 12-15s. It just gave us more time to horass each other between each shot.

Your only allowed to play as foursome where I play, but I agree that if you can keep up, there's not a problem, but if you can't then I'm sure it will get very annoying.
