I wanted to post this to see what everyone thinks about getting clubs refurbished. I have a one year old set of Mizuno MP 32's. Love the clubs and do not see myself changing. I am hard on my clubs and they look like hell!!

I am pretty sure they are out of spec and I know the grips need to be changed.

So, is it worth the $45-$50 a club to get them reshafted, regripped, polished, and brought back to spec, or should I just buck up and get new ones for $700? What do you guys/gals do when it comes time to repair clubs?

In my mind, You dont buy a new set.
Grips-yes, get them changed out.
Heads-get a good groove sharpener for $20 and it will return them to like new.
Shafts-I dont know why the shafts would be worn. In a year, I would think they would be fine.
Specs-Many places will do this quite affordably. CHeck lie angle and degree and fix them back.
Polished-Find a thing of Blue Job Chrome Polish powder online at car detailing places. It does wonders to bring the shine back.

What about the bag clatter scratches and rock hits that scratched the sole? buffing wheel?

I just figured on the shafts since I play a lot and shafts are pretty cheap.

If they are truly that bad, then I am not sure they can be fixed. But if they are not affecting play, then consider just cleaning them up. You would be suprised what a good polish can do to bring out the shine. With that being said, it will also show flaws.

Have them regripped and get the loft and lie checked. If they have the correct shafts in them for you why change them, nothing will happen to a shaft to change it's spec from original other than bashing it in to something and bending/breaking.

As for getting the heads refinshed, why bother if you are going to use them for another season. They have dings and scratches on them, so what? And as for worrying about the grooves, don't. Unless you have deep wear spots on the faces of some of the short irons it's not going to make a difference to the playability of the club, even up to the point where you have wear spots they'll still perform with no noticeable difference.

I agree with the others

- regrip for sure (learn to do it yourself, it's easy)
- get the lie/loft checked if you think it's needed
- no need to reshaft unless the shaft is wrong for you
- polish/refinish... why?
- can't believe the grooves could be worn out on a year old set.

Golf clubs are tools not museum pieces. They get scratched and dinged. That will not affect playability. Don't worry about it.

If you want shiny new clubs, buy new ones and keep them in your house. And take up bowling.

there is no such thing as a "groove sharpener" the tools actually only remove debris from grooves, such as rock dings that push the grooves inward, it reshapes them back towards normal, but you cannot "sharpen" grooves, if it could be done, the pro's would do it rather than getting new wedges every 6 months.

I know how to regrip, I just would rather have someone do it while they are going through the club. its boring. Refinish because I want the satin look on the sides on the face like the back of the club. Never said anything about grooves, they are fine besides the PW being a tad marked out. I have been playing golf since I was 11 (25 now). Never had a set refinished. I think I am bored at work and looking to fritter my paycheck away lol.

Check out www.groovesharpener.com I think you will find out differently. I use the tool as do many others on here. The reason that most pros dont use them, is because they cannot guarantee that it is not reshaping the grooves hence making them not USGA compliant. While I have not seen that happening, you can definately see shavings and them have a like new feel. Can you please show some evidence to support your statement that grooves cannot be sharpened? I have not heard that before.

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong).
    • Day 17: did mirror work while watching TV. Working on wrist feels.
    • Day 315 - 2025-08-12 Got a little work in before Juniors showed up for one of their Summer Sessions.
    • I always knew it as high but never that distance was 90-95% of rating! That has always played to my advantage. I never have but I could totally vanity cap myself by playing **super** long courses that are otherwise super easy. There was one course like that in LA that I used to play that helped my cap like that. The back tees were close to 7k yards, but otherwise the course was incredibly easy. Wide open, misses almost always had a play at the green from the adjacent hole, flat greens, not challenging green complexes, etc. But it got a high rating because it was so long. So I could swing hard, spray and pray, and score well (relative to my handicap).
    • Do need a special ferrul. Thanx 😉
