so yesterday while playing a quick 9 at a local favorite muni exec course, I had what felt like a great round. I shot a 43 on a par 32. Now it's important to note that I play to try bogey every hole, meaning I look to get on the green in 3 and 2 putt the par 4's. Since I have zero control on my driver, but pretty good handle on my irons, I took an iron off of every tee, being a short course at no time was I outside of an iron shot from the green. I bogey'd 4, double'd 4, and shot 1 par, for a net of 11 over.

THe best part was that I started the first tee with the same ball that I sunk into the 9th cup. no penalty strokes.

I usually shot 47~48 on that course with a 50 once this year.

I play with my father and he told me that if I could play my good game for 9, I could break 40, but if I play my bad game for 9, I won't break 50.

I know my weaknesses are my inability to use a driver, and anything from 35-10 yards.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I'm the same way with my driver off the tee. I wish I was more consistent with it because when I hit it good, I do ok. I just picked up a new 2 iron that I am gonna try off the tee on some of the par 4s when I get to play soon to see if that can save me a few strokes, but I still plan on getting better with my driver as well. It's always fun to experiment with different ways to get around 18 holes, I think!

Better strategy netted you a lower score. Good job! One thing to keep in mind is that the two worst shots in your bag are shared by plenty of others! Those half-wedges are one of the last shots to come. Driving the ball off the tee long and in play is another shot that eludes many a player.

My brother's next door neighbor is a teaching pro. The first things new students ask for is help with the driver and hitting the ball farther off the tee! Ironically, nobody EVER asks about hitting those 40 yard half-wedge shots.

Sounds like you enjoy the game. GREAT!!!

I can hit a 3 iron 200 if I crush it, 190 with a smoother swing. On most courses, playing to my ability I don't need to hit it further. However, when I skull a 30 yard chip and end up having to chip again, and then two putt, I am taking a six (or worse) on a hole that with a better 40 yard chip could have been par or at least bogey.
