Well, when I was in highschool I bought some titleist 962's and during college I really slowed my play, and I picked back up recently (past few months). Seeing the technology that is out nowadays and what not, I was curious, if I still hit the 962's well, is there really any point moving to a new iron? I hit them well, but I see that no one plays with them anymore..I am kind of a pack rat..and it is really hard for me to believe in golf technology as I am a firm believer in the swing being 98% of it. I mean jeez, Im still using a titleist Starship 3 wood lol..

Get a new driver. That is all.

Driver tech has progressed tremendously. Iron tech has changed only in the baloon headed super game improvement irons/hybrids. If you are used to hitting a traditional club I would stick with the 962's. They are good clubs.

Get a new driver for sure, the bigger driver heads can maximize your performance. Like Lemay said iron technology hasn't greatly increased, older irons are harder to hit, and if you can hit them well, your fine with them.

Heck, those are some nice irons if they are in good shape... I'd only consider upgrading your driver. The larger heads are much more forgiving, but will look huge at first compared to your 260cc Titleist.

Ya, the 962's are in pretty good shape....but man, Im telling ya, when I hit the large head drivers it really messes with me lol. Im not a short player by anymeans, but when I hit that Nike SQ for the first time I felt like I was cheating lol

Yeah, don't they look weird? I went from a 360cc to a 460cc about 3 years ago, and it just looked huge at first. Your going from a 260cc to a 460cc... the difference must be Mammoth. (almost twice as big)

I agree, you'll really benefit from a new driver. I upgrade my Hawk Eye Pro Series this year and it's really paid off. Getting used to a 460cc head when my Hawk Eye was 250cc was quite an adjustment though! I've still got my old Taylor Made Original One out in the garage, next to the FT-5 the TM looks like a miniaturized kids toy.

If you are uncomfortable with the 460cc driver head, you could always ease into it. I'm sure you could get a great deal on a Titleist 905S, which is 400cc or a Titleist 983k which is 365cc. Technology in the aforementioned drivers isn't as developed as the current market but still leaps and bounds above what you have. Good luck.

Thinking if I regress to a smaller and older driver, if that'll force me to use a better swing.

If you are comfortable and confident with them why change? Plenty of time left to find another set of clubs if you want. I love pulling out an old set of Wilson Staff 78 tour blades, 1-pw and play'n them. Its pretty funny to watch people pass my bag and do double takes, especially when they see the 1i. I am a walk on most of the time and its really funny to see the others expressions when they see my persimmons woods and irons. In many cases my equipment is older than they are. When we make the turn and I've scored 39 to 42 the comments are a little different than from when we started. These clubs have really cleaned up my swing and game. Also, when your clubs are sitting outside of the pro shop or bar they probably will not appeal to a theif.

The OEM's have been brilliant with their marketing, making many think that cb's and more off set make the club much easier to hit. Of course what they won't tell you is, if you don't have a decent swing it doesn't matter how big the club head is, or how much off set or how expanded the cb is you will still suck.

I was simply shocked at the new driver technology when I tried a few.

A lot of truth in this. More foregiving heads can lead to less disciplined swings. Sort of like a budget - unless you're Bill Gates, you always find a way to be at the limit.

Thanks for all of the input, I will have to gradually move into the larger drivers...but Im still gonna run 2-pw in my iron set. Probably throw in my 1-iron and omit the Big Whip until Im sub 10 handi. Similar to what you were saying Blades4me
