Howdy, all! I'll be in the market for some new irons this winter/next spring. I've narrowed my choices down to Adams Idea A3 or A3OS. I'm a high handicap and am now to the point where consistent ball contact really isn't a problem anymore, although it does still happen. Question is, I have a tendency to hook (although i haven't taken a lesson yet, and it could be my swing) and the OS have more offset. Which one should i get, i want the most forgiveness but don't wanna be hooking everything, my cheap-o RAM set does that enough now. Thanks guys, sorry for the book.

I went with the a3's - they are still super forgiving. Plus, it's nice to have your irons actually look like irons.

A 400 hundred dollar set of clubs, wont make you hook it any less than a 100 dollar set. Don't buy into game improvement clubs like draw or fade, theyre bs. The club shouldn't fix your swing, you should.

my thoughts exactly. I'm almost certain that it's my swing path, judging by my divots, when i actually take one. I just wanna make sure the OSs won't make me hook. I like the hybrid style, and haven't heard anything but good things about them in all the reviews I've read online.

no club will make you hook. your swing will. Fix your swing plane, either your grip is way strong, or your coming too far into your body on the swing, work on pushing the club back, put your back against the wall and don't hit the wall.

I think one of my issues is that i stand to close to the ball, then my hands go out to where they should be on my backswing, then come in towards me on my downswing. Any merit to this?

Check out Ben Hogan Apex CFT iron set that comes with 3-4 hybrids. I think they are going for around $150 on eBay.

I would get some lessons from a pro first, they will tell you if just need to adjust your swing or start all over. I would'nt go from cheap-o to semi cheap-o set of clubs it's a waste of money, cause there going to do almost the same thing for a high capper. I would save your money and wait till you can hit the ball were you want, Then go buy a nice set of irons that will able you to shape your shots. Thats what I should've done, but I did it like you wanted to do buy cheap-o to semi cheap-o , and now finally I'm ready for something better. The only way I would suggest you go get a new set is if you have graphite and would need steel.

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.

    • Because you're twisting it to hold it open. Forearms, etc. shouldn't be all that tense at setup.
