Hey guys,

I tested some irons yesterday & decided to get some A30S hybrid/irons 3-PW set. I upgraded from some older Cobra King Cobra IIs.

Wondering....for that guys that have this set...how would you rate it?

I played 9 holes set at a demo day. I loved em. It was actually one of the best 9 hole scores I ever shot. The feel great. I would have bought them but had other $$$ priorities at the time.

I would definitely recommend them.

I played my first round with the A3OS irons & love them. These clubs have a nice feel to them & are easy to swing.

Now I just have to fix my swing lol

I too am interested in any comments about the playability of the clubs. Does anyone know the MPF rating of the Adams A3OS irons? Are they considered a "Super GI " or Ultra GI"? I've not been able to find this info. Any input or comments are appreciate.

I traded up from my A2OS to the A3OS. Got em' off ebay for $450 to my door. You may be able to get them cheaper now that the A4's are out.

I think they are an outstanding set for anyone over a 10hcp. The set is well thought out and the transition from 3-PW works well. They are big clubs, but that helps me feel more comfortable when I hit. Some people feel that makes them "clunky", but they inspire confidence for me. They swing well and despite what other people say about feel, I can tell the difference between a bad hit and a good one. The bad hits just don't play as poorly as a bad hit off a blade. Also, they are "workable", although at my skill level I can't really compare them against other clubs since I've really just started working the ball on purpose over the last 6 months, I used to have trouble with any club over an 8. While I still slice or hook the occasional ball, I'm consistent up through 6 now and the 3,4,5 are not as daunting. I'm comfortable enough with them that I just ordered the 2H. My only reservation in recommending them may be that the A4OS are out now. I feel that there was a significant difference from the A2OS to the A3OS and it makes me wonder if the A4's are going to be even better. Enjoy the game!

Good morning Juan J. and thanks for your A3OS observations. I'll check out Golf Digest. MPF stands for "Maltby Playability Factor". This is a reference source I refer to for making a decision on the "playability" of golf irons. My wife and I are demoing irons at this time to make a buying decision. Since we are high handycap golfers, we are considering "Ultra/Super" game improvement irons. We need forgiving irons. Google "ralphmaltby.com" and check out the MFP ratings on most irons, it's some interesting reading. Mr. Maltby has done research and study of golf irons and you may also find it interesting.

I'm currently playing with the Tech OS and they are great, I think they are basically the A3's with Titatium faces. I can't seem to hit their 3 and 4 hybrids, that's why I have the Bridgestones in their place.

Another option is the Wilson Di7, I have a set of them and they compare well to the Adams, IMO. You can't go very wrong with either.... jmoc

I don't believe that Malby has measured the Adams A3OS and assigned a MPF rating. I found the Golf Digest a good recommendation for a super game improvement iron reference. I am hoping that Ralph measures the A3OS or the new A4OS. MY wife is leaning toward the Adams A3OS, I'm moving toward the Big Bertha '08.

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
