Just use an online used club pricing system. Golfsmith has one, and there are many others, including one sponsored by the USGA.

My Tools of Ignorance:

Driver: Ping I20 9.5*
Woods/Hybrids: Cobra AMP 3W and 3 HY

Irons: Cobra AMP 4-GW

Wedges: Callaway Forged Copper 56* and 60*

Putters: Scotty Cameron  35" (Several of the flow neck blade variety)

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Bag: Nike Performance Carry

Those pricing systems are not the most accurate things however..

Basically, I wouldnt pay more than 250 for that set.

What is accurate then? Your opinion? Golfsmith's guide uses something like 5 condition levels; hard to imagine you could get more exact than that as long as you can agree on condition.

IF you like the irons (which I don't know if they are graphite or steel), I'd say grab the set up. Those along with the putter are definately worth $200. You could probably throw out the woods and it'd be an OK deal. Maybe offer him $150 without the drivers. If he balks at that say something like "You can get your $50 by selling those somewhere else. Unless you don't think those drivers are worth $25 a piece. In which case why would I want them?" That works sometimes!

You'll be stepping up to a larger driver soon and the $50 could go a long way toward a 460 cc driver that's 2 or 3 years old. You could get about any brand name driver with this criteria for about $100. You really don't want those drivers in that bag. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll try to negotiate that... They are steel irons btw. I calculated the package using preowned sites to be worth $265

What is most important is that you like what your getting, and you are getting a fair deal to your parameters. For example,

http://valueguide.pga.com/detail-exe.../m/Burner%20TP Now if you can honestly tell me thats accurate.. your estimated value is 50 bucks for a Burner TP FW.. So please, take some time to look at these things. Golfsmith doesnt give you none to much either.

I agree completely, these prices are bs, so that the Golf stores can give you this, then double it on the resell and make a bit. I usually double what it says, and that tells me what it is worth.

$150-200 sounds like a good deal. The irons and putter def worth it. Can look to replace the wedges, woods, and driver.

Those were my thoughts exactly. I was thinking of replacing the woods with a couple hybrid clubs. As for the driver I'll probably use them for a while then eventually replace them when I have the money (Christmas is right around the corner, so I'm going to be poor!) My friend really just wants to sell the package so I guess $200 it is! I still think it's a pretty good deal.

That is it in a nutshell! All you have to do is look at the "trade-in" value of a club, then look up the price on a preowned version of the same club on the same site. Two minutes of research and you will see through this. That's why it's so much better to resale a used club than trade it.

That's the trade in value. If you look at the re-sale value, it's $94.64, which is much more accurate for what you can sell it for online.

For anyone looking for an "accurate" rate on anything used, clubs or whatever, check the completed listings on ebay. For the most part ebay is an everyday person selling to another everyday person. But, you can only check completed listings if you have an ebay account...

The re-sale value from the PGA value guide uses ebay to get their numbers, so for that TM FW listed above, the $94.64 is based on 526 listings of that particular club.

Just a quick note on using the pga value guide...i'm sure most of you are aware of this but for those that aren't -

The first value that appears when using the value guide is the trade-in value. If you look directly to the right of this you will see a link that says 'get the re-sale value'. This is the more important value for you when you are trying to work out what a good purchase price for a particular product is.

This re-sale price is based on information gathered from ebay.

When trading in clubs through dicks spoting goods they usally give me the highest value that is shown in the trade it chart.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
