I was thinking of adding a 3 wood to my bag over the Christmas season. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a 3 wood. I was looking for a mid-to-low trajectory. Thanks a lot.

Also I was wanting to add a new sand wedge to my arsenal. Any ideas?

oh man, i absolutely LOVE my Sonartec GS Tour 3 wood. it is THE best FW wood Ive ever hit. I put my Callaway Squareway into storage after i got the GS Tour. They make em in 13*, 14* and 15* and you can get them in great condition on ebay for around $50 usually. New ones tend to run in the $70-$80 range. you should give one of those a try, it is simply an awesome 3 wood IMO. good luck!

for a 3 wood, try the tour burner tp 3 wood, on ebay its around 130 new, and it has a lower ball flight. Warning: this club is hard to hit and i would reccomend for anyone in the 0-8 handicap range.

as for a wedge, you can always count on the vokey or nike sv wedges which are dirt cheap. and if you want to spice it up, try a miura wedge, these are amazing. the only downside is that they run $165 range brand new.
good luck

I could only find one GS Tour used for about $70, and new it was around $150.

ya just gotta keep looking. it changes everyday. actually since you checked theres another one on there in MINT condition for $75 now. i just bought my 5 wood for $46: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih;=023 and my GS Tour 3 wood I bought BRAND NEW for $55. just 2 days ago there were 6 or 7 on there. check again tomorrow or the next day if you want one. the are ridiculously easy to hit off the deck and easier off the tee. best 3 wood ive ever hit bar none...

I just picked up a Cleveland CG14 and I LOVE it. I definitely recommend it, although there are always the Vokey lovers.

Yeah, I was looking at the Cleveland wedges.

I tried them both and I just liked the CG14. Also I have heard the Vokeys wear out pretty quickly while the Clevelands last for a long time...I'll find out for myself in a few years....My stepdad uses Vokeys but he really took a liking to my CG14.

Is the CG14 the one with the yellowish, goldish insert? Because that was pretty much the only thing I didn't like. But that wouldn't stop me from getting it. I really want to try out those "Zip" grooves.

yes that is the CG14....I dont think that would stop you from buying the club....plus I think it serves a purpose, makes the club more forgiving...which helps when u get to the higher lofts.

you really can't go wrong with the nike sv tour wedges. good price and IMO one of the best wedges on the market. soft feel and lots of spin.

the 3-wood I have (burner t3 14.5*) is a good choice too. It sets up fairly open and has a lot of heel and toe relief, if you're into that. A great 3 wood for the lower handicapper.

Cleveland Hi-bore 9.5* stiff, Taylormade Burner T3 14.5* stiff, Mizuno mp 32 3-PW, Nike SV Tour Black Satin 52, 56, 60* wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 35 inches
In the market for a new driver, then my bag will be the shiz.

It is difficult to recommend clubs for a swing one has not seen, but here are two thoughts to consider.

(1) Don't let the Cleveland CG-14 insert fool you -- these are great wedges and the "gel back" feels good. You get used to the look and then forget about it.

(2) Don't give up on an old three wood called the Steelhead from Callaway. You can get them from Callaway Pre-owned and other places. The curved shape of the sole is coming back into style with some new 3-woods. To me, this is easier to hit, especially from light rough, than the flatter bottomed 3-woods. (Hey, these things are really good clubs -- some are still on tour after 10+ years.) The Sonartecs are also great woods.

Just somethings to consider.

if you're looking for a low ball flight, get a Titleist 904 fairway wood. I can't take the damn thing out of my bag!

I recently bought a Nickent 3DX Pro Fairway Wood - UST Stiff Shaft... I love it. Its long and accurate and incredible easy to hit.

Nickent makes great woods and hybrids.

I really like the original Ping Rapture 14 degree, the only thing is the head was just a little bit too big at 220 cc's.

I absolutely bombed this thing both off the tee and the plush mats at golfsmith. I was a little worried though about hitting it off some of the tighter fairways on some of the courses I play. And at that $$ I didn't want to do the test :p

The Ping Rapture v2 at 180 cc's looks like it might find it's way into my bag this year. Although I don't know why they had to put 16 degrees of loft on it. :(

Fortunately it might work out though, because i'm not looking for distance with my 3 wood, I want to be able to hit a nice high shot which will find either the fairway or par 5 green at around 250. I was hitting the 14 degree 270-280 which was just too much and too close to my driver.

I like my titleist, but am currently trying to move towards clubs with more forgiveness throughout my bag.

The only other 3 wood which appeals to me is the Callaway X or X Hot , not sure which one.
