I am heading to Fort Myers in a couple of weeks and plan on playing a few courses. Does anyone know of some great courses to play that won't cost a fortune?

I visit Ft Myers (Sanibel Island) in June and October. During those times it is still "summer season". I play for around $25 for a round or more. Some good deals can be made at a lot of courses.

However, this time of year you're getting down there during their "In season". Costs are going to be high just about everywhere.

Check out

for golf courses in the area. Some have internet site addresses where you can get an idea of costs for a round of golf.

I'm usually south of there just a tad in Bonita Springs/Naples around the holidays. Depending on how far you want to drive, the best value in my mind is a place called Heritage Bay. Super course; only a year old but very, very nice. Just played over Thanksgiving and their peak rate is $75. They have 27 holes and you can't go wrong no matter which one's they put you on. Fabulous course. It's on Immokalee Rd (Exit 111 off I-75). Take that exit and go East maybe 5 miles or so.

If you do want to drop some coin, I'd highly recommend Old Corkscrew. Jack Nicklaus design. I've played it twice and wow...what a course. One of the toughest courses I've ever played, and I've played some tough courses. I played it a couple of weeks ago over Thanksgiving and it was like $140 or so, and the first time I played it was in between Christmas and New Years (last year) and it was around $180 at that time of year. Luckily, my buddy's company picked up that round. If you're looking for that, I think the exit number is 123 (Corkscrew Rd) and head east about 7 miles.

Try using lastminutegolfer.com -- the Heritage course is very nice and good value-- Old Corkskrew is also very nice -- you can sometimes get discount cards at Golf Galaxy--for a number of courses-- Another decnt public is River Hall-- Great course--- my favorite there is Lely but is south in Naples---- Flamingo course. Mustang is ok but Flamingo is tops.

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
