Am I in the minority that I really don't like hybrids? I went to golf galaxy to hit some in the simulator and the look of it at address just threw me off. I couldn't hit one cleanly for the life of me. I just love the feeling and balance of a good iron more than any thing. So I was just wondering, with all the hybrid craze, does anyone feel the same way?

Which models did you hit? If you hit all GI hybrids that would probably give you that impression. My burner I almost never use because I cant flush it without duck hooking it. Get this I have to try to mis-hit the thing to hit it strait. Thats why im getting a new hybrid. Try some players hybrids like titleist.

I too, love the feel of a purely struck 3 iron. Problem is, it only happens one out of five attempts, maybe. If you can hit the long irons OK, more power to ya! Many amateurs struggle with the long irons, myself included. Hybrids have helped my game tremendously. You should choose the clubs that fit your game, not based on what is the latest "craze."

i am way more accurate with long irons than hybrids when i strike both of them well, however i can't hit a 2 iron pure every time, or else i would carry one, also i like that fact that a hybrid flies higher, lands softer, and goes further than an iron with similar loft.

Hitting a hybrid off the mats in the simulator room never seems to go very well. They are so much better off the turf. However, they are different than an iron and not for everyone. I currently play 3 of them just because I like them so much (after I resisted them for years). The main thing is to commit to the swing you are using for them. Even the professional teachers can't agree on the type of swing for them. Some say use an iron swing, some say use a wood swing and then there are those who say to use a sort of 'hybrid' swing - it's a mix of iron and wood swing.

They are easier to hit for most amateurs, but the same model doesn't work for everyone. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

I used to feel the same way you do. I couldnt hit one for the life of me. If I did hit one solid it was a hook. I hated the way they set up at address. I finally found one that is now my favorite club. The Ben Hogan cft, in my opinion its the best kept secret in golf. It sets up perfect and has a nice weight and feel to it. I hit this club straight every time. Best of all you can get these for under $30 on the bay.

i am in the amrket for a hybrid, because with my new set of irons i lost my 3 iron, so i tried my friend's adams idea pro, and it was amazing! it sets up like an iron, and it is definitely a "player's" hybrid... it was a great club...i just need to find one that i can afford right now... :(

I prefer high loft fairway metals over either hybrids or long irons from the deck,

and I prefer long irons over either fairway metals or hybrids from the tee.

I guess hybrids are best if you grow up with them.

What do you guys mean by players hybrids though? Anyone care to explain? I remember when I went I tried the cobra 4 hybrid and the taylormade 4 hybrid.

Like other clubs, hybrids also come in many iterations. 'Players' clubs, including hybrids, tend to be less forgiving, with little or no offset, square face (or even slightly open), higher center-of-gravity and are more 'workable'. Adams has made a 'players' hybrid for a few years now (I think it's the Idea Pro). In TaylorMade, the players clubs usually have a TP stamped on them (which stands for Tour Performance or something like that); I believe Cobra was a DWS Pro or some similar designation. These clubs tend to be more difficult to hit for the average amateur golfer.

Models to look at for the average golfer include Cobra DWS (although it's still a little harder to hit than some for average player), Adams Boxer, the Nike Sumo 2, TaylorMade (the non-TP models), Cleveland Hi-Bore. I play the Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK, which I love, but they are easier to hit than most 'players' models, but less forgiving than some of the above mentioned models. There are also cheaper models available that have gotten good reputations (including Tour Edge, which some people swear by).

I too have been anti-hybrid for quite sometime. They weren't around when I learned to play so I learned to hit the long irons. I actually hit the long irons pretty long and straight so I can't complain.

But after reading so many articles and reviews I recently bought a 20* hybrid and decided that I would give it a try. I am going to test it out a few rounds to see how functional it will be for me. Chances are it wont be I am going into it with an open mind. I got it a phenomenal price so if I don't like I can sell it with ease.

Alot of people swear by them but I think it's a matter of personal preference.

Good luck.

only hybrid ive ever hit was a baffler.. and i hated it with all i had (it was stupidly offset and i hooked every shot)..

but im looking into getting a hybrid for my home course... theres a par 3 where i have to carry the ball 190+ yards over water up to an elevated green.. and ive been told its a perfect setup for a hybrid.

not sure what kind i'll get though.. i need to go hit a bunch of them.

the look at address doesnt bother me that much.. but ive noticed the steel shafted ones feel a bit shorter and feel like an iron... so i'll probably go with one of those since i play my long irons better most the time than i do my fairway woods..

Titleist also makes a killer hybrid.

I agree, my friend has one and it feels terrible and I duckhook it EVERY TIME. Weird part is that tons of people like em. More power to them for being able to stand that thing

P.S. Not meant to offend anyone w/ a baffler.
