I am thinking about changing 3 woods I currently hit a Mcgregor NVG2. I think its a pretty shallow face. I would like to have one with a little taller face but still with some width. I was thinking used possibly a Ping G2. Thanks for any suggestions. Mainly looking for something that is easy to hit.

Unless I'm mistaken, shallow faced woods are supposed to be easier to launch high. I remember reading that the NVG2 woods were fairly forgiving. A PING would probably be an upgrade, but NVG2's are solid from what I hear.

Thanks may not be any reason to switch. Its not a club that I make good contact with mostly because I dont practice with it much. Times when I hit it well it goes very good. My big problem seems like my hardest part is off the Tee box I tend to top or sometimes hit under partically due to me not practicing with it and the shallow face.

Try just barely teeing it up then.

I've been facing a similar dilemma. I hardly ever hit 3 wood off the tee (choose to play courses that don't force layups off the tee), and maybe hit it once a round off the fairway. I reconsidered getting a 3 wood, and purchased a Sonartec SS-01 club off the internet. If you want to hit the "3wood" off the tee, consider a 16 degree driver (Cleveland Hibore XLS is one option). I agree, if you are on the tee, you don't want something shallow faced, and why not take advantage of the 460cc you get in a 16 degree driver. Then get a 4 wood or 17-19 degree Hybrid. Lots of options here, choose what feels right.

I have a 17 hybrid. I may look for a 14 to 16 degree head, I have a 3 wood shaft
VS proto S shaft I could use.

I didn't even think of that option. 15 degree driver head on 3 wood shaft. Perfect. Might eventually come down to which 14 you put in the bag (Mickelson at the Masters)

An inexpensive wood if you can find one (try Callaway Pre-Owned) is either the Steelhead 3 wood (15 deg) or the Steelhead Strong 3 wood. Last I looked there are still a couple of pros carrying this club on tour and it is over a decade old design -- still one of the best woods ever made in my opinion.

This has been mentioned here before I think, and some old Steelhead players agreed with this observation -- great club.
