i got 280 dollars for x mas.... pretty cool, i know!... thought of trading those $280 for a launcher 5 wood and a nickent 3dx rc 3 hybrid! what do you think... have you hit either of these clubs? should i change the fwy wood? i pretty much have my mind set on a nickent, but what thoughts do you have on the new launcher? any other thoughts about fwy woods in the $180 range?

While saving money is always good, and I usually save most holiday and work money, if your buying clubs do it on ebay. Just go to golf galaxy, find the club you like and buy it on ebay and you'll save up to like 50 percent. Used also helps, as used isn't any different as long as there are no skymarks. Maybe a 3 wood instead of 5?

well my 5 wood in my sig is a dinosaur club (mid 1990's i think) and i know i can get more distance out of it if i update. I dont need a 3 wood because i almost can reach any hole that i need to becasue i am a fairly long hitter. If i sqweezed more distance by buying a new ==non dino== 5 wood i could be even better. i will look on ebay to see what pops up! thanks

i don't very much see the point of a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid...atleast for me...5 wood and 3 iron have their places even though the distances overlap, but the versatility of the hybrid, being able to hit it in a variety of ways from all types of lays makes it a great candidate to replace two clubs in your bag and carry an extra scoring club...my bag consists of a driver, 3 and 4 hybrids and then the irons and wedges giving me lots of scoring club choices. i seem to remember anthony kim saying he carries one hybrid and no fairway woods

What about the Adams Insight BUL 5-wood? They are the same price as the 3W. Plus, I hear they are forgiving and long. I heard the stock shaft in the Adams Insight is crap. You could spend the money you save on a top quality shaft.

If I were you, I would compare a 2h to a 5W. You would probably lose distance with a 2h, but hybrids are more playable. Maybe match it to the Nickent hybrid.

I have never been a huge fan of Cleveland, but the new Launcher looks sweet. It looks like Cleveland put a lot of time, effort, and technology into this club. I remeber hitting the Fit-On Red and it was pretty good.

I know you don't want a 3 wood, but what about a 4 wood? If you have a 19* 5W and a 20* hybrid, would there be that much of a difference in distance? IMO, you would be better off buying a 4h or a 4W to cover your distance gaps more effectively.

I really like the look of the Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS fairway wood, though some people are put off by the scoop out the top of it. Have a look though, i think i might get one after i save some money! And they will be a lot less than $180 i think - I am from UK though so i have a guesstimate exchange rate in my mind!

I never thought of that... thanks! I will probably want to keep the 3h tho... so maybe i should order a 4 wood if i get any thing, or maybe i will look at the hibore, but does that have a closed face?

I think with your HI, you should try the Launcher. Vijay plays it, so we know it's can be a tour level club. The HiBore XL is the same price as the Launcher, but I think it's geared toward higher handicaps. I'm not too sure about the original HiBore, but they may be tough to get your hands on. They stopped making them, so you would have to try eBay.

I'm not too sure about the closed face issue. Many 3 woods are closed by about a degree, but I'm not too sure about the HiBore or 4 woods specifically.

There's no point in getting a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid. They'll probably be separated by about a degree on 2. In other words, about 5 yards difference. Just get a decent 5 wood, and save your money so you can golf.

ok.... i did some deep thought and came up with this.
1) get a launcher when it comes out but
a) get a 4 wood
b) wait till there is a sale or something
2) get a 3 nike hybrid 21*
a) so that would give me a decent yardage gap
b) becasue they are only like $80 on eBay
3) save money and buy golf balls!!!
4) go watch the playoffs!!!!

I don't use a 5W, but I do carry Nickent hybrids -- 2H and 3H 4DX ironwoods -- and they are my go-to clubs. I hit them more than any other clubs in my bag, and they are awesome.

As far as pricing, the Nike fairway woods are under $180 now -- I think they're $149 at Golfsmith (in my area, anyway), and I'm sure you can get them cheaper on eBay, assuming you are comfortable ordering there. I've purchased a few clubs on eBay and been very happy, but I've heard some horror stories too. Mostly seems to happen when folks buy something for a price that seems too good to be true (e.g., the $75 "new" Scotty Cameron putter).

Tour Edge has a great 4W if that's where you're going. The CB2 or the Exotics are great clubs, and they are offered fairly often on eBay -- mostly the 3W, but I got my 4W there. The bidding used to be pretty competitive, but I have a feeling it's substantially less aggressive these days. You might be able to get their $349 fairway wood for $180.

I've enjoyed my 4 wood....it is a solid performer. I think you can get them in three different shaft configs. I suspect that your swing speed is fairly high...the Graffaloy ProLaunch shaft option my be the one for you if you went with the G10.

I've heard nothing.....and I mean nothing....but highly positive reviews of the Tour Edge premium exotic line up. I couldn't find any to demo when I replaced my woods....but in the future.....who knows, I may look around harder. I don't have a clue about what shafts they offer, but again, their premium line, whatever it's called, has been highly recomended.

I played with a retired military guy (if you can call someone in their early 40's retired )last month who was gaming them....had their fairway woods and a hybrid. He was crushing them. Our par fives aren't that long but I almost always lay up at the 100 yard marker (I'm not a short hitter). This guy brought it on home on two of the fives. Our drives were fairly close...but his fairway woods were rock solid. He offered to let me try them out after the round but it's hard for me to tell anything with standard length clubs and I declined.

They sounded great. He said he'd been gaming them for about a month....early Christmas presents from his wife. Said the ball jumps up so easily. He had some type of voodo shaft in them....I'm not up to speed on all the shafts available. Whatever it was, it was mated up perfectly for him.
