I have been thinking about either getting my 3wood reshafted with a graphite shaft.Right now it has a steel shaft on it. My question is should i reshaft my 3wood or try and find a good used 3wood. I have also been thinking that if i do get a different 3wood that i would get a 13* or a 13.5* instead of a 15*.

975F is not a forgiving fairway wood to hit. I had one and switched to a TM r7 15 degree. I would try hitting your club with the steel shaft compared to other possible replacement on the launch monitor and see what is a better replacement in 13 or 15 degree.

to answer your question, in my opinion i would just buy a new fairway wood... the best fairway wood i have ever hit bar none is the Sonartec GS Tour. i believe they make the 3 woods in 13º, 14º, and 15º. although they are no longer being made, you can still find them quite easily on ebay.

JMHO a reshaft, labor included, would not be much less than a new, or slightly used fairway wood in a shaft you prefer. You can maybe offset some of the difference in price by selling or trading your old fairway wood.

Unless you are absolutely in love with the fairway wood that you now have, Id just buy something new or at least newer.

Before you decide to go for a 13 or 13.5° make sure you find one that you can hit and see if you can get it off the deck properly (unless you know somebody who has one you probably wont find one in stores to hit).
I have no problem hitting my 15° off deck at all, but when i bought a Titleist 13° and later a Burner TP 13° all my shots with it where total garbage and i stopped having the idea of playing a 13° when my 15° works like a charm.

Over the years I've had a couple "strong" threes...I always seem to gravitate back to a more lofted stick. While the "strong" threes work nicely for me off the tee...I tend to suffer with them from the fairway.

Now I've taken it even further and play a 17 degree 4 wood with a 3 wood sized head and a 3 wood length shaft. It's a good stick for me now. Good usable distance from the fairway.

You may be generating a great deal more clubhead speed and a be a much better ballstriker than I and can pull it off nicely. I would advise leaving the club alone, though and simply shopping ebay for a new stick altogether if you are going to switch from stock steel to graphite. Hang on to your 3 wood, though, never know when you may wanna go back to it.

Good luck. Fairway woods have been a fickle lot for me....hope they are easier for you.

this is what im contemplating at the moment too: getting rid of my 3 & 5 woods and just getting a 16º 4 wood. i just wish they made a GS Tour in 16º

I think I am going to leave alone the 13* and go for the 14.5/15. I read good things about the TaylorMade V-Steel, so i have been trying to find one of those. I have also been looking at the R7 and Titleist too. Anyone have anyone have any of these and if so how do they work for you?

I had the TM R7 Steel and i never really had the intention of changing it until the clubface broke. Now i use the 2007/2008? (the older one) Burner FW and compared to it, its a bit more forgiving/easier to play.

If the 975F is your must-keep club, reshaft it. If you hit it decently, look into something more forgiving at a cheap price

Just my 2 cents. good luck

check out the TM Tour burner Tour launch., I love mine to death, easy to alighn, gets off the deck simply, goes a mile.. I have thought about goin stenson and just carrying the 3 wood. its 14.5, so its a nice median to the 13-15. I also have a sonartec GS Tour, and i hated it. Mine set up very closed, and looked just horrible, but it was a cannon when it didnt hook. the stock shaft was not as bad as some other companys.

Titleist wise, they are coming out with the 909 so the 906 which were great are gonna be cheap, the F2 has a taller face, so it will be great off the tee, but some may have a hard time getting it up off the deck. so if your looking for a mini driver for tee boxes, the 906F2 in 13 with the stock V2 may be your cup of tee. Do you hit your fairway woods pretty high?

Shaft wise, it depends. if your looking for accuracy, check out the stock V2's in the 906F2, weigh in at 90G IIRC and they are pure smooth. Or if you wanna drop some cash, pick up a Matrix. If you go the 906F4, (smaller face, little more forgiving) the stock VS Proto isnt bad, I never personally liked them, but alot of guys i play with play them and love them.

Hope this helped!

Brian.

After struggling with today's upright lie angles and lofts stronger than I want, I just got fed up and went back to wooden fairway woods. After one round, I found myself wondering why I'd ever switched to steel to begin with.

Actually, my first steel fairway woods, the first generation Taylor Mades from the early 1980s, were made to wooden club specs (see TM webpage archives). Gradually, they changed toward what we have now.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
