In stroke play, absolutely. It's even been done on tour - Rory Sabbatini went ahead of Ben Crane a few years back. He wasn't so much allowed so much as Crane was taking his sweet time.

In Match Play, it's a bit more ambiguous, because playing out of order can cause your opponent to ask you to re-play your shot.

Stroke Play - Who ever is ready can go, no penalty* *(unless you've played out of order to give/gain an advantage - as determinted by the Committee).

In MATCH play it matters. If you go out of turn, your opponent may call for your (out of turn) stroke to be cancelled and replayed in correct order.

It's rule 10.

driver: FT-i tlcg 9.5˚ (Matrix Ozik XCONN Stiff)

You didn't indicate the situation. But if I'm with my buddies, we play "ready golf". I don't want to be out playing 5 hour rounds.

      For me it was combo of good drama and total last man standing collapse... But it showed me once again that "ball rollback" is nonsense...when courses are set up to punish missed fairways and greens, that's where the quality golf (or total collapse) takes place...hurting the rest of us because a relatively few can bomb it 100 yards farther is idiotic...that Young bomb on 18 was gutsy... He misses the fairway with that he likely doesn't win, at least on that hole...

      Followed by the longest drive on 18 in the shotlink era. That is a tough shot and he stood up there and did it. Fair play to him.
