Anyone tried the MP-52s and the AP2s? The MP-52s seem to be marketed as a bit more forgiving, but the AP2 looks like it would be a more forgiving iron than much of what has come out of Titleist.

So has anyone hit them both? What are your thoughts?

I have. Couldn't really stand the MP-52s. AP2s felt much better AND performed more like a muscleback or a blade. Forgiveness was about the same.

I tried both as well. Not big difference I would say, both with great feeling (I like just a bit more AP-2 feel). Flights were different but that was due to different shafts I think (project X produced more penetrating flight than TTDG SL I tried). I almost bought the AP-2 but considering my handy just could not bare the fact to play with the same clubs as Adam Scott... I know of several more guys tried both clubs and preferred AP-2.
But both are great clubs I would say. Distance -wise about the same, dispersion - for me a bit better were MP-52, but difficult to say. Unfortunately I tried only 6 ir, I think the way to go would be to try more clubs of the both sets on the real round and decide...

I tried both of them and thought that the ap2's were just a tad more forgiving. For me, the ap2 with the project x's had a slightly higher ball flight than the mp52 with the s300.

Tried them both and found the AP2s were a bit more forgiving and less harsh on mishits. Distance-wise the MPs were about 7-8 yards longer but I wouldn't going to sacrifice accuracy for distance with my handicap.

I'm in Naples, FL right now (vacation) and the Edwin Watts here has a set for $399 listed as used. There isn't a mark on them but they are a custom order, 1" longer and 2deg upright. Must be the person who ordered them couldn't hit them at all and gave up fast. When I say there were no marks, four of the clubs I looked at didn't even have scratches on the soles of the club. Whoever had them didn't even test all the clubs.

Although I didn't compare them to the Mizunos, I was this close >< to buying the AP2's. Then I tried my Callaways and there was no looking back.

The Ap2's were on the very short list though. You really can't go wrong with Titleist anything.

I guess I am the only person who did not like the AP2's. I used to have Mizuno MP-32s and I am strongly considering the MP 52's. The AP2's just didn't feel as good as any mizuno's I have owned, nor did I think they were more forgiving than the MP60 or MP 52. IMO.

I would agree with you... the AP2's definately had more of a muted feel than the mizzys as well.

I would highly recomend the ap-2's over the mizzunos. The fittign process titleist offers is terrific. The mizzunos are grinded from a solid piece of metal unlike the ap-2's but i think the feel of the ap-2's is way better than the 52s and the ap2s perform a lot better

I looked into titleist fitting a couple years ago and I thought it was about 1000 dollars at their facility in carlsbad. Is that the service you are referring to?

Did you buy them ? what stiffness are the shafts on those ?

I'm glad I found this!

I have actually been demo-ing both the MP 52's and the Titleist AP2's for a few months now. I played one round with a set of AP2 rentals in Hawaii and loved them. But the MP52 irons are very nice as well. I've been hitting both irons basically once a week at least for a month now and also need my clubs +1 inch and 2 deg up 6.0 stiffness. I've been going back and forth for some time now about which sticks to pull the trigger on between these two. Both sets are really nice - a well struck shot has a nice buttery feel and mis-hits are quickly noticed. I like them both...but for me the AP2's just seem to be a little more accurate and don't necessarily penalize you as much as the 52's do on mis-hits. I am also a fan of the Project X shaft and like how my shots seem to be more penetrating and little more lower trajectory than balloon high shots with the S300's which come stock on the Muzuno MP 52 set.

Overall, after a good amount of homework - I'm going with the AP2's w/ Project X 6.0. If you are like me and you have completely out grown your "super game improvement" set and are ready to start seeing lower scores.. this will be a good set well worth the hefty price tag.

Which leads me to my next question.. Where do I find the best deal on these now? I've been seeing some decent prices.. but would love to find something in the $750 range for these. They were practically giving them away at the North East Golf Show this past weeken but with all standard specs. If anyone knows of some good shops who will work with you... please let me know.

Best place I found was a local country club. They matched the lowest price I could find online. Paid $795 which is a steal compared to the $999 most places are charging.

titleist offers their fitting cart at almost all retail stores while mizzuno doesn't...youd be surpirsed how much the fitting cart can help.

Not sure this was directed to me. If it was a country club is in upstate NY (near Utica) and they were custom fitted at their outdoor range.

Just put the AP2's in my bag... They are pure... I'm a Titleist loyalist so I'm probably a little biased but they feel great
