Just curious if there are any qualifications that one would need to volunteer?

Not really. We even have some kids under 15 (with their guardian) volunteering. We just ask that you can commit to 3 of the 6 days, depending on your committee.

Some golf knowledge is helpful but not required. You can view the committee lists and signup here: http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/r027/volunteer.html We are still looking for volunteers.

Barclays upped my credit card interest rate from 0% (introductory rate) to 27.24% because I paid them 6 days after the due date (Due on the 3rd, I paid them on the 9th). Now I know what they are doing with my money, holding golf tournaments.

Don't pay late then.

They sure did use your late fees to pay for their sponsorship of golf tournaments!

I signed up a few months ago as a marshal at the practice facility. It's been a while since I got anything the training days, etc., and now I can't find the email. Any idea if I've missed something along the way? Sounds like you've had a lot more developments on your end (with changing holes, etc).

Phil, training for marshals is at the golf course, on Wed Aug 19th at 6:30pm or Sun Aug 23rd at noon. It's in the media center which should be near the entrance. This is where/when you can pick up your uniform unless you are having it mailed.

If you have other questions, please email KristenHicks@pgatourhq.com and she will have your marshal captain contact you.

This is the general email that you should have gotten a while back:

I need to pay to be a volunteer? Thought It'd be "free" to volunteer.

How can I buy tickets for a practice round? Would like to see the pros up close rather than having to follow a mob around.

Turns out my grandmother caught wind of me volunteering and told me it would be the highlight of her life to watch Phil Mickelson play. So obviously we're going to get her out there for a day. Question is, I think Tuesday is best, but since it's practice rounds I'm afraid it will be pretty random where everyone is going to be and it would be possible she's miss Phil if he plays first thing in the morning. The timing of Tuesday is also tough because I have something I have to do in the city that evening.

Wednesday you're stuck with the pro-am, which isn't a big deal and should have smaller crowds. Question is, if there are 125 pros, how do they decide who plays in the pro-am? No way they could get 125 foursomes out there. I guess it could be 1 pro and one am, but that would definitely hold down the point - which is to raise funds, right? Thinking that Wednesday would be more relaxed and smaller galleries than Thursday, but maybe I'm wrong there.

So, any suggestions for the best day would be great.

Go to Tuesday for the practice round to get close up. You can get tickets from this link. $35 paid in advane:

http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/r027/tickets.html Volunteers pay $50 to offset the cost of the volunteers (shirt/hat, food vouchers/concessions, and of course a free 1 week guest pass).

Tuesday is the best to get photos, signatures and to be up close. Far by the fewest crowds. I believe they have actual tee times, as there are 125 pros who want to practice, you can't have them all teeing off around 11am.

I will confirm and get back to you.

It's 1 pro and 3 amateurs per group. There are two shotguns, at 7:30am and 1:30pm. So they get like 22 groups in each shotgun, so about 44 pros in all play. As I was told in 2008 by Woody Austin's caddy, those pros who play are "forced" to do so by their sponsors as part of their agreement. I don't know who plays in it until the tee sheets are out. Check on Monday for Tuesday tee times (

http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/r027/tee-times.html ). I find it's not that busy on Wed either, depending who plays. Even last year Phil only had a few hundred following him. Vijay and Sergio and KJ Choy had big followings. The other players had less than 50 (or zero) so it was easy to get up close.
Thinking that Wednesday would be more relaxed and smaller galleries than Thursday, but maybe I'm wrong there.

Wed is much smaller galleries than on Thursday and the players dont have their game face on. On Thurs you will see 125 pros, not 40+ as on Wed. You really can see a lot of golf on Thursday, it's the best day IMO (that and Fri) to see a lot of golf.

Note, public access on Tues is 9am, 7am the rest of the week.

Rumor is Tiger will play this event, but no commitment until official Friday deadline.

There is a large Korean population in the area. They are usually out in force following K.J. Choi, but should be even bigger crowds now following Y.E. Yang now.

Hey Blue,

Will I have a problem getting practice round tickets if I show up early on Tuesday morning? I'm assuming it won't sell out, and you can buy them once you get there, right?

Hey Blue,

Tuesday will be easy as pie to get in. They will prob sell about 5000 or less tickets of the 25k available.

You can likely scalp an extra from someone for under $20.

Ok, I digress on the scalping part, I can't confirm that!

Last year (Ridgewood) Tuesday was so slow they didn't even check for tickets after 12pm. I assume more people will be there this time, and if Tiger signs up... still tickets will be "aplently" on Tuesday.
