Asking advice on which of these older Titleist sets to get.

I am having a little dilemma. The local shop is going out of business and all of their stuff is marked way down including used iron sets. I have settled on three different Titleist sets and need a little advice on which ones I might get. All have TT DG R300 shafts and 3-PW, so those are not an issue. The models are DCI 990, DCI 981, or DCI 962. I hit a couple of irons out of each set and am leaning toward the 990. They have a more solid feel(kinda like blades) at contact. The forgiveness of the 981 and 962 would be nice, but these are going to be "correct your problems" irons, so I want very little mishit masking.

I just replaced my 962's after 10 years. Great clubs that really helped me take my game to the next level. I've heard others say that they're one of the best iron sets that Titleist ever produced. Very workable, solid feel and a nice thin bladelike top-line. Perhaps a little more forgiveness than a blade, but you will definitely know when you miss it and they won't let you get sloppy.

I don't have any personal experience with the other two so I can't comment on either of them.

I'd agree. It's by far the most contemporary and high tech of the three. And I'm assuming they're all about the same price, so go for it.

Thanks for the advice, I just got back from picking up the 990s. I figured they were the ones I would buy. They are sweet to look at; simple, refined, no colored junk or bling, just tools for a purpose. The only problem is, it will be next Wednesday before I can take them out on the course.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. How does $140 sound for a set of Titleist 990s in pristine condition?
