I'm thinking about getting some new irons... not to improve my game, just because I want to. My 962 DCI's have done me well, but I'm bored, and would like something newer and different in the bag.

I was wondering if you can mix 'n match Mizuno irons if you custom order from Mizuno through your pro shop.

I was thinking I would probably like the 2-5 iron in the MP-52, the 6-7 iron in the MP-62, and the 8-PW in the MP-67. I know you used to be able to do this with Hogan, I'm just wondering if you know of anyone who has done it, or if it's possible.

Cheers, Allan

Most companies now allow you to order as little or as much of a set as you like. Mizuno pretty much has a consistant loft (give or take a degree) through most of the iron models, especially within the MP series. I know Golfsmith lets you order them by the iron. I can't see any reason why your dealer wouldn't let you do the same.

I know people who have done this. It just doesn't make sense to me because the feel and weight will be different through your entire bag. To me that would hurt consistency.

Thanks for the info... my course doesn't sell Mizuno, but I know a couple in the area that do... I'll check it out.

Your reasoning makes sense, but I'm sure with a company like Mizuno, I would be able to get all the swing weights the same. Loft, & Lie angles are also easily adjusted. Forged clubs, at least to me, have a much more similar feel amongst different clubs than do cast clubs.

I'm sure a company like Mizuno probably has (somewhat) consistent swingweights between the sets.

To the OP, the idea is pretty cool. I have seen it done with Titleist, PING, and Mizuno before. They should let you order by the iron so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes you can. Last year I got MP-60's in long irons and MP-32's in short irons.

Now this is just me, but I won't buy from Mizuno anymore. I'll buy used before I buy from them again. IMO, the quality of the equipment is great, its just a shame that the customer service isn't on the same level as the equipment. I'm picky about my equipment and wanted my shafts spined. They said they don't spine shafts, okay. Then send me the shafts and heads separate and I'll do it. They said we don't send out disassembled clubs and that would void the warranty, okay, void the warranty and send me the disassembled clubs. They said, we can't send out disassembled clubs. So I said okay and they sent me my mixed set of clubs. Well I disassembled them and weighed all of the heads. The 4i head was 5 grams heavier than the 5i head so I had to go to a machine shop and grind off 5 grams. LOL, the top line of my 4i is probably 1/8 of an inch now. Plus the 4i & 5i shafts were the same frick'n length. I was wondering why the long irons felt funny. Anyway I've weighed all of the heads and made them 6-8 grams apart and spined the 5.0 PX shafts and they are now a sweet set of clubs.

If you can't find somewhere local, you can custom order at tgw.com . Just find the model you want, click the Customize tab and choose exactly what you want.

Thanks, that's a great option to have. I found a shop in Vancouver, and I'll have no problem getting exactly what I want. Mizuno Canada was really helpful. They said for custom clubs, every head is weighed, and in a case like this, they will match the swing weights for the entire set, they will also adjust the lofts to my specs so they are matched throughout the set.

This is a dangerous forum... now I just have to decide.

Cheers, Allan

If I was going to do what your doing, I would go with the MP-52 in the 3,4,5 and the MP-62 in the 6,7,8,9 and pitching wedge.

Good idea. Mizuno actually advocates mixing sets in their brochures.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
