Didn't go to a full blade, but I switched from a King Cobra GI CB to the AP-2, and I did it for exactly that reason. I know that my swing used to be more precise than it has become, and I wanted to force myself to focus more. So far it seems to be working... I'm starting to hit more shots with that crisp sweet spot feel than I had in years. With the AP-2, when I miss it's a serious miss, like 20 or 30 yards, not the 5 yards that the same miss would be with the Cobras. And on those good hits, it feels SOOOOO good that I want to repeat it.

How do you like your AP2s?

I love them. One thing I've noticed since I got them, I'm hitting my other clubs more consistently too. It seems that for me the theory that being forced to make more precise swings to hit the irons consistently is not only working for my iron play, but it's transfering to all of my clubs, hybrids and FW woods and driver. I'm really starting to get excited about the upcoming season.

I played Mizuno mp30 that are cavity backs that felt heavy with the rifle shafts so I saw a set of mp33 blades on ebay for about $250 and bought them and once I hit them on the driving range I gave my mp30 set to my brother-in-law and since lowered my handicap plus shot under par 3 times.

If you don't bought a set of blades you will always wonder if you should have. don't listen to anybody who has not played blades, but try them yourself and you will find that they are easilier to hit then most people think and you will love the feeling of a well struck ball, its effortless and buttery.

It's the MP32 that I've gotten to use the most and that feels so sweet to me.

I have 2 sets of irons. The first is a set of Tommy Armour Silverscot blades and the second is a set of Nike CCi cavity backs.

I've been using the blades for a year or so because I like the feedback I get from them. While not always good, it lets me know when I do something wrong so I know better for next time.

As was said earlier, it doesn't matter what kind of club you're playing, if you make a bad swing you're going to get a bad result. Forgiveness is only going to help you so much. The only difference is a cavity back will put you on the edge of the green whereas a blade will put you in the bunker.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
