Rifle "Flighted" shafts are manufactured with different kick points through the set. The shorter iron have higher kick points (flex points) to help hold down the ball flight and prevent "ballooning". The longer irons have lower kick points to help get a higher trajectory. They aren't for everyone (I play them). If you already have a high ball flight, you might find that the regular (non-flighted) shafts work better for you.

From Royal Precision's Website on flighted:

A revolutionary concept developed through exclusive Flex Distribution Technology" and perfected on Tour. Provides an exaggerated change in kick point within the club set to manipulate ball flight. Long irons have a lower kick point for higher ball flight, easier launch and greater distance. Short irons have a higher kick point for a lower trajectory, greater accuracy and control.

There is also "high launch" as well in the series

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread, but does Project X have any vibration eliminating technology like DG's Sensicore? Or do the Project X and X Flighted already have their own built in already?

I think that's pretty much it. The only differences are in trajectory.

So, you're getting the ZBs? Good Luck!

I thought the flighted shafts also had weight changes? What I mean by this is that it makes every club the same weight, no matter if its a 5 iron or pw.

Their website lists only one weight for each frequency. See

I need something to compare to here.

About what launch angle for a 3Iron would constitute getting the flighted over the non flighted? Layman's terms: How high is too high?

Don't hold me to it, but while I was in the simulator with a 6.0 flighted 3Iron I believe my launch angle was 17*

Is that considered too high or just right?

With my current irons with non-Project X shafts I don't believe I hit my 3Iron "Low", I could hit it better though.

Any thoughts?

I don't know the answer to your question, but my opinion is that you shouldn't get the flighted unless you feel like you need the help getting your long irons in the air. There's no need to look at the exact launch angle, just be honest with yourself and assess whether or not your 3 iron flight looks similar to the way it looks when other good players hit a 3 iron, or whether you could use the help to get a higher launch.

I was going through the same debate about Project X vs Project X Flighted not long ago, and from digging through forums, reviews etc. I really got the feeling that the Flighted ones are suited more for game improvement than for consistent precision throughout the set. A lot of people said they tended to hit nasty hooks with long irons and that it felt like the shaft was trying to do too much, and they would just prefer the same feel and function on all the shafts throughout the set. That being said, some good players swear by the Flighted ones.

That's understandable, but it seems like all the club manufacturers are putting PX flighted shafts in the irons in the warehouse. All the new irons with PX shafts seem to be flighted unless specifically ordered not to be. Wonder Why..
