Well, golf season is almost upon us up here in New England and I am looking for a new golf instructor.

I managed to get my handicap down to around 16 last year with some lessons, but am looking to give a new instructor a try and see what I think. I am located in Salem, NH so does anybody have any recommendations for a good instructor in the area?

Thanks,
JR

Hello- We may have to wait longer for golf because of weather, but there are certainly things to do while we wait. This winter I have taken advantage of the Hampshire Dome in Milford. To get ready for the approaching season you may try the Willow Creek Golf Academy in Atkinson. I think it is not too far from Salem. I have a lesson in a couple weeks. They have cameras to capture your swing on video so that you can see exactly what you are doing. My lesson is with Matt Prior. Seems like it should be a valuable experience. I can better tell you how this instructor actually is in a couple weeks. Good luck!

I have been looking into Atkinson CC for some lessons. I have been to their range a few times and did like the facility. Looks like it might be a worthwhile place to at least try 1 or 2 lessons and see how things go.

Hmmm maybe I don't even need lessons. I have always just put the club down behind the ball and pushed as fast as I could forward.

I will have to try to bring the club back next time I am at the range...might save me a ton of money on lessons.

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
