You know, there's nothing like smashing a drive, posing at your finish, leisurely picking your tee out of the ground, slinging your bag over your shoulder, and taking a few steps before glancing out in the fairway to see your ball coming down. I had the opportunity to do that a few times recently this past weekend (playing on elevated tees helps).

What's the longest hang time you've ever seen on one of your drives? Mine is just shy of 9 seconds - very very close to a full nine. It was this past weekend with Rafi (who was taking a leak at the time, heh heh).

I read that Sean Fister (the long drive guy) had one that hung in the air for 20 seconds - in Colorado from an elevated tee, but STILL! Count off 20 seconds to yourself and imagine a ball hanging in the air that long!!!

I'm not sure how long my best hangtime on a drive was, but I can tell you where. On the first tee of the Palmer Course at Oglebay in W.VA., you can hang one up for double digits I'm sure if you hit a relatively high tee shot. There has to be 75-100 ft. elevation drop off from the tee to the landing area around 250-275. Anything longer has even farther to drop. And then there's some par threes where you can hit a wedge to a green 100 ft. below your feet. Fun stuff.

And there's a par 5 at Wolf Hollow in Missouri where if you carry a drive over about 240 you'll fly it over a dropoff that goes way down to a second fairway below. You can't see the flight the whole way, but at least they put a ranger out there so you don't have to worry about hitting into the next group.
