I'm looking at finding a teacher in my area and have a question.

Several instructors have "PGA Professional" or "PGA Instructor" or "Class A PGA Professional" on their shingle. However, when I go to the PGA website and use their "Find and Instructor" program ... most of these guys don't come-up.

Is there a difference between a PGA Pro and an Instructor?

Thx.

"PGA" has many different levels. A PGA instructor/ Apprentice have gone through their PAT players aptitude test. And are enrolled in continuing education or the GPTP.

PGA Pro, Class A means they have completed their training and are certified by the PGA as a Golf Professional. You wont find a club pro thats not. But don;t look past the apprentices usually younger with a whole new outlook on the game with fresh ideas.

Class A pros are good for fine tuning "tweaking". Where the new kids can teach you some of the new tricks.

Appreciate the reply, but I'm confused. Do you mean that a PGA Pro/Class A Pro have already gone through the Instructor/Apprentice phase?

If so, I wonder why I'm not finding these local "PGA Pro's" on the PGA website ...

Absolutely, Think of it this way. Anyone can be an instructor. Once you pass your PAT and enroll in GPTP you are a PGA Apprentice. Once you have gone through the rigorous training and classes at the level required you will be classified as a Class "A" There are also Course instructors who gave a shot at a mini tour or took a sum of money at a tourney and they get a qualification as a "PLaying Professional" None of these designations make them a better or worse teacher. The best thing you can do is talk the guys teaching style and goal set out with them and see who you "click" with. If you cant get along with the guy, you will not learn as much.

1/2 of the teaching ONUS lies on you though. You need to take notes and heed to your instructors teachings and FOLLOW-Through for god s sake or you will just sit idle , if not get worse.
