Master's Green Jacket Question

I know the previous champion puts the green jacket on the tournament winner....but has their ever been a year when the previous champ missed the cut & let on Friday night & did not return to put the green jacket on the winner?

My guess is if someone did that...they would not be invited back lol

The defending champion stays at the tournament until Sunday's Green Jacket ceremony, even if he misses the cut... Nicklaus said one of his biggest disappointments was missing the cut as defending champion and riding around the course on a golf cart with Bob Jones on the weekend... I believe it was 67

I think it is something that has only started after the advent of television coverage. For example, at the first televised Masters, Art Wall was in the booth and did not come down to put the jacket on Palmer. Pretty sure it became an event sometime after television came on the scene. In all the years I've seen the Masters, don't remember anyone ducking out.
