Well guys,

I won it 4 and 2!!!!!!!

It was a pretty easy win and I cruised to victory, and my opponent was not that great at all. We also kept the stroke play score and I shot 93 and he shot 107 (it was a par 72). I was 5 up early and then he came roaring back on the back nine to cut it to 1 up. But then, i reasserted control and won the next 3 holes to take the victory!!!

It was a lot of fun and I got another match tomorrow morning so we will see how I do my second time around!

Nice, Congrats! Match play is always a fun game. It is so much different than stroke.

Good job in the match!

what do u mean doctorfro? what does this indicate if i make 6 pars and 1 birdie and shoot 93??

I think it means that you didn't focus on the other 11 holes that you were 22 over par on.

Play every shot like it matters and you could certainly break 90.

I think he means you were 1 under on 7 holes and 22 over on the other 11, averaging a double bogey every hole. If you could work on the short game (making an assumption about your scoring here) you might be able to reduce the doubles/triples and really lower your score without much trouble. With 6 pars and a birdie you could/should have been in the mid 80s assuming the rest of your round was around your hdcp.

When I was trying to become a better golfer I noticed I made 2-5 doubles per round while making a birdie or two and some strings of pars. It got to the point that I had to force myself to manage each hole to NOT make double bogey. Things like playing safe out of trouble, playing to your yardage strengths or playing away from trouble and toward the safest part of the hole. Turning double bogeys into bogeys is usually easy because they are silly mistakes. Good luck in your tourney and congrats on the win. Keep us up to date on your matches.

    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
