I put rain but not downpour but it really depends. Sometimes I will play in a downpour to get the practice. Just not the time of year because its still cold here :(.

I do not mind playing in rain and 'bad' weather for the most part. I always consider that there are 3 'bad' weather conditions - high wind, cold (sub-45* F), and rain. My general rule of thumb is that I will play in any 2 of those conditions at the same time, but not all three.

Playing in the rain is not bad at all if you are wearing the right gear. I have a really nice Footjoy rainsuit (I think I paid $300 for it). It keeps me dry and comfortable all day. For warmer weather I have a short sleeve rain jacket I always carry and the Footjoy rainpants have zip off legs to turn them into shorts. I also wear a rainproof bucket hat so typically I stay relatively dry. The only bad thing is I always have to bring my golf bag in after playing in rain and wipe down clubs and allow the bag to dry.

I'll give it a go in the rain.....in fact, Todd from the Sandtrap and I played a round in a downpoor once....walking, too.

The only two things that are showstoppers for me are dangerous conditions and standing water on the greens.

I keep a couple of pairs of rain gloves in my bag and prefer to keep using corded grips.

I like playing in the rain since the course tends to be emptier. I'd also like the temperature to be above 60 if it's raining.

I'll play until there's standing water on greens normally. I kind of enjoy light rains in the summer, very refreshing.

I played in a downpour once - first time we played a course and there were only 5 holes left.

At my home course I will come off if it gets ridiculous only because I play it every week anyway.

Not usually, but i just got back from Bandon Dunes, and played one day in 40-45 degrees, wind blowing 20-30 mph and raining sideways! My buddy and me where the only two out of 8 of us to go out that day! It was seriously intense! We got to the first tee, and the starter just looks at us and goes... "haha! the psychiatrist will meet you on the 18th green." It turned out to be a blast! Definitely and experience to remember. It was raining so hard, I had three sleeves of balls in my bag, and when we got done, the sleeves had literally disintegrated off of the balls and had turned into paper mush like they had been through a washing machine! I still ended up shooting a 98.

Apparently I am getting soft. Last year it could be pouring and 35 degrees and I'd play. This year I'm more "I can play some other day this week." That's what I'm saying today, as it is pouring.

The great thing about playing in the rain is that you usually have the course to yourself.

Unfortunately it takes a ton of rain to cancel tournaments around here.

I played in a tournament the other weekend where the other place to get relief from casual water was 30 yards back down the fairway...it also snowed half the time and about a good constant 20 mph wind.

But did they cancel it? NOPE!

And boy was I PISSED

i do not tee of in any kind of rain or cold weather or strong winds. however, it would take a hurricane blizzard combo to get me to quit in the middle of the round.

I'm lousy in the rain. My swing becomes more tentative and I lose tons of yardage. It amazes me the pros can handle it.

I think my problem stems from playing without a glove, and not realizing I had to change grips on my clubs when I was a teenager. Consequently they got slick and I had many clubs fly out of my hands in the South Florida rain, including a lost 3 iron in a lake of a par 3.

Now I have a glove in the bag, which helps quite a bit, but I've never had confidence in the rain.

i dont play if it rains. but that wasnt offered as a choice

I will rarely start a round if it is raining. I have to be able to see clear sky behind the clouds to get me to start. And this is only if it is nice and warm. Cold and rain are two things that don't go good together. If I am already playing and it starts raining I will usually continue. If there is a threat of rain I will put all of my rain gear in the bag before I start. Unless of course their is lightning. In the summer, we never get rain that is just rain, it is always part of a storm.

I played a 4 person scramble tournament a few years ago in March. We started in the morning and it was cloudy and about 50. On the second hole it started to rain gently and never stopped and the temperature slowly dropped as well. Sometimes it was harder and then lighter, but it never stopped. We were miserable, but we were playing well. About half the time, only 2 of us would hit, they other two stayed in the cart. Funny thing was, we shot 59 and won by 4. We normally shoot that when it isn't raining.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, inĀ the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start ofĀ the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a ā€œlast chanceā€ series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
