So I am considering upgrading my irons to Mizunos. Some quick background info on my game:

I score in the 90's mostly due to my fairway/chipping. I have started working on my chipping. Most of my fairway iron shots are a result of my irons are longer than standard, with standard lie. I tend to hit them fat, or if I choke up a little bit the toe hits the ground. So I am getting fitted in hopes of helping with this.

When I am able to be consistant with my swing/setup, I get great results from my irons. What Mizuno models would be worth considering and trying at the demo day? Does anyone have experience with the the MP Fli Hi vs Clik Fli Hi? How about their wedges?

I want irons that will challenge me to improve. I absolutely enjoy making pure iron shots.

Are you looking for a player's cavity or do you want to venture into a blade? If you are looking at a PC, take a look at the MP-57s or MP-62s. I'm assuming you want them new, no?

If you want a blade, look at the 32s and 33s. Just make sure that you are actually measured and have your lies adjusted before you demo any club. You don't want to find yourself in the same predicament that affects your game: swinging clubs that are not fit for you. FWIW, I still have my MP32s and think they are absolutely fantastic.

As for wedges, I used to played with the MP T series. Good wedges but just felt alright to me.

Are you going to try their woods, too? I read that the MP-700 driver and FW are fantastic.

I currently have my Cobra LD F Speed that I love. The Cobra guys will be at the course on the same day....so might look at the S9-1....

Now, the 3 wood is a different story. Thinking of checking out all the available ones there.

From their current line up it sounds like you'd want to hit their mx-200's ( their current GI irons) and the mp-52's from their players line. I purchased the mx-200's over the winter and like them so far ( i'm usually in mid to upper 80's) .
I've heard people describe the mx-200's as tending toward the players side of GI irons , and the mp-52's tending toward the GI side of players irons for their forgiveness.
Given the limited amount of time I have to practice and play , 200's were the better fit.

I carry 10 Mizuno Clubs, 3iron through sand wedge. My 3-iron is a FLI HI, and I love it. I never really did like my hybrids, although I will occasionally put a Cobra Baffler 3 in the bag instead, if I'm playing a certain course with plenty of rough.

4-9 are MP-57s. I got these for similar reason to you: I love irons that challenge me to improve. My bad shots are worse than they were with the SGI before these, but my decent-and-better shots are better. These give me great feedback at the range, too. And the sting of a really bad hit is motivating to make sure your grip and stance are right. If you're looking for what you say you are looking for, I suggest these, the MP-62, or the MP-52s. Don't let anyone tell you you aren't good enough for them! . Some of my friends are high single-digit handicaps and cautioned me about these, but you know what? I hit mine just fine. And, to Mizuno's credit, their demo staff didn't try to convince me of SGIs when I was demoing (as 3 of their competitors tried to steer me towards SGIs). My wedges are also Mizunos. I have to admit, the only wedges I've tried are these and Vokeys. And, well, I like these more.

It's ironic that you mention that (the bold part). I had a sales person tell me to stick with cast cavity back irons and handed me a Callaway X-22. I took 3 swings and it felt like swinging a hammer at a bolt. The flight path was worse, shorter, and left. No thanks.

I am looking pretty hard at the 52's. I want to get to the demo day to see what Mizuno has to say/offer (test the 62 and 57s). Plus I want to try the MP FLi Hi. In my old set of irons, I had a 2i that I hit really well. Used it as my driver for the longest time because I was consistant with it. I have Baffler 2 and 3 hybrids now. I get less consistant results with it because I sometimes swing it like a wood. It's a mental thing. Plus I really want to take a look at their wedges. I have Clevelands now, but considering the lie adjustment/forged feel on such important scoring clubs. I will probably keep my Cleveland 56 (my sandwedge) due to the abuse it will get from bunkers anyway. Plus, the results I am getting with it are amazing!

I play the older MP-30's that are very similar to the current MP-62's.

Since you are wanting a iron that is going to challenge you to improve and is suitable for your current scoring ability I would suggest the MP-52's. If you want an iron that is not going to challenge you and make you improve even more take a look at the MX-200.

Yeah. I went to the Cobra demo day and asked to try their players' irons, and I was given the UFI club, telling me that it's best for me.

I don't know if new 57s are to be had, but it's worth checking into. The nice thing is that it's easy to order Mizunos in a custom configuration: I didn't order the 3 or P and then replace them, but rather ordered 4-9 and the FLI HI and the wedges. So yeah, try the FLI HI, see if you can hit that and your decision set's 3-iron a few times each, and see which you like.
Plus I really want to take a look at their wedges. I have Clevelands now, but considering the lie adjustment/forged feel on such important scoring clubs. If you have a sand wedge that is working for you, stick with it. Until you turn pro and have a contract that requires you to play only your sponsor's wedges, there's no need to use any club you don't like, and no reason to not stick with a club you do like.

I really appreciate the input! I guess there are a few companies that will be at the course this Sat. So far Mizuno, Cobra and Titleist will be there.

So, the demo day included Cobra, Callaway, Taylor Made, Ping, Bridgestone, and Titeilest. I hit just about every club I had guestions about. As a results I discovered the following:

1 If you get fitted for irons, do it at a range where you can hit off the ground and watch it fly. Learned a lot about my previous fitting.

2 For me, the Mizuno MP T Wedge is AWESOME! I ordered one as well as the MP Fli Hi 2.

3 I am so saving up to order my Mizuno MP-52's. I was told the 57's would work, but take longer to get used to.

That was a great experience. I have had my mind opened for options I hadn't considered based on product descriptions/reviews. I have some things to look at once I get my new irons.

To me, it sounds like you should probably stick to the MX series of irons.

Ok, why should I stick with the MX?

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
