I'm looking to buy a beginners golf set for my girlfriend, something that she can learn on and be happy taking to the course for a number of years. She will be taking lessons this summer with these clubs. I have a budget of about 250-300 for the set, graphite lady flex shafts probably. I was looking at the lynx set on golfsmith and I was just curious if anyone had a better suggestion, or had any used clubs they might be selling that fit this description.

In the bag:

Burner 460 Ti Driver 10.5°, Stiff shaft
Burner Steel 3 wood, Stiff Shaft
Burner Steel 5 wood, Stiff Shaft Burner Rescue 3, Stiff Shaft Tour Burner Irons 4-PW Z TP 52° Wedge Z TP 56° Wedge White Hot 2-ball

The used clubs you would need to look for in the classifieds.

I'm sure you know your girlfriend better than anyone else here, at least I certainly hope so, but are you sure she needs the graphite lady flex? That could be one whippy shaft. My daughter has been playing lightweight regulars since she was 14, graphite women's lady flexes would be useless to her (especially in a graphite iron, or even worse, driver shaft) and she's average height and slender. With all things for which measurements are critical (including our women), but especially golf clubs, I would make sure the clubs are right for her swing, or what someone qualified may project it to be. The right shafts are critical for anyone, but especially beginners.

get some Adams A2 women's they are real cheap on rock bottom, and you can't beat them for a beginer... super easy to hit. Set is 4-SW and includes both hybrids and irons... perfect.

Then all you need is a driver, FW wood or two and a putter. I would recomend a driver with 12-14* loft... my wife and mom both play drivers in this range and love them... super easy to hit. Maybe the Mcgreggor MT driver... great quality, but cheap price with them going out of business... could even get a FW to match... say 18* or so.

well she has almost no club speed and i figured the lady flex would help her get the ball to go anywhere. I am no expert, especially not in clubs for women, hence coming here for help. But when i was learning I used any hand me downs my dad had for me, which were hand me downs when he got them (aries ram from 89 i think?). After 3 years i invested in my own set custom fit for me, I sort of thought i should do the same for her, or at least an inexpensive ladies standard set. Do you really think a custom fit set for her could fall into the 300 dollar budget?

I doubt you'll get much custom for that price... as long as she isn't a harder swinging lady you should be fine. At this stage her swing will change a ton. Lie angles and lengths aren't really that imporant as she doesn't even have a swing yet. For less than $400 you can get everything I mentioned in my post and it will be very high quality stuff... I really don't think you could go wrong with that equipment for a beginner. I'm trying to get my mom to buy a set of those irons right now, might even suprise her for mother's day. My wife plays those FW woods from Cleveland that are $30... and she loves them. You can always have the lie angles adjusted later after she develops a swing of some sort.

good luck... I love playing golf with my wife... just wait till she makes her first birdie.

Your budget is very generous.
I would just get her the following (to start with)

19 degree club (hybrid or wood)
5 iron
7 iron
PW
SW
Putter

she may end up hating the game after a lesson or two and never play again.
I wouldn't spend more than $200

I've taken her to the local pitch and putt, she has a blast but gets frustrated on the longer holes because she cant swing for anything. So that's why we're doing this this summer. And we're splitting the cost, 150 me 150 her and i pay for her lessons.

I have a full ladies starter set that I'd like to sell. They are my wifes first set. It is called a Callaway GES (Game Enjoyment System). The set comes with a bag, putter, and the rest of the clubs that she would need. My wife has used them for a couple years and did enjoy using these sticks as a beginner. Last summer she bought a set of irons and a new driver. After we sell the GES she is looking forward to fulling outfitting the rest of her set. You can find more info about the GES on ebay or through google. Let me know if you are interested. Price is negotiable.

I have a similar question (sorry just saw the thread). My model of a gf is a tall 6'2" and is a beginner as well. Any ideas on what exactly i should get for her clubs wise? i mean, she's too tall for ladies and i have no idea what a good mens starter set would be. any help would be much appreciated

Get her a men's set w/ regular or senior flex depending on how hard she swings. Same Adams set I suggested for the other is available in mens as well... so are some of the McGreggor MT drivers, etc. Main thing is make sure the driver has enough loft... 12-14*.

my girlfriend wants to play now too, and she cant swing right, i try to tell her how to do it better but she keeps goin back to her "field hockey" swing lol

dicks sporting goods had a set in there for like 180 i think with driver and everything, i was thinking about getting her those until she learns a lil better takes lessons, then i might think about going in for a fitting and better clubs, cause i dont think her swing right now is useful in the fitting process, i think you need to have a someone decent swing lol

i beleieve walmart also had ladies clubs for like 199? not sure, i learned on walmart clubs

not bad to learn on i guess

My wife is 5'10". As has been said......and this applies to the OP as well..... don't feel the need to limit yourself to "ladies" clubs. There are some great "mens" sets available in a wide range of shaft flexes that could be very appropriate to a woman.

In David's bag....

Hybrids: Titleist 910H 19* and 21* Diamana Kai'li
Irons: Titleist 695cb 5-Pw

Wedges: Scratch 51-11 TNC grind, Vokey SM-5's;  56-14 F grind and 60-11 K grind

My point is nobody here knows how your girlfriend swings the golf club.

Just because you used any hand me down, doesn't mean you should do the same. Big mistake in approach, if you two ever have little ones, do not do that with your kids! I'm not suggesting you get a "custom" set, just suggesting you get her the right shafts, shouldn't be too hard to get that figured, then you are off and running and I think you'll find clubs at all sorts of price points.

You may want to look at Pings. She can get fit for proper length and shaft and choose the iron clubhead she likes, no men's or ladies about it. My daughter plays the same G5 heads as other men or women, no problem.

I took my wife to golfsmith and got hooked up with a 22 piece (driver, 3wood, 7wood, 2 hybrids, 6 through pw hybrid irons, and the bag for 249.00 . Under the name Zevo. She is a beginner, and she loves the clubs. Great deal.

I got my gf a brand new starter set called Square Two Light and Easy last year for $300. It includes a Driver, #3 and #5 fairway woods, #5 and #6 hybrids, 7-PW + SW irons, putter, and cart bag. It's a great set.
