My wife's set is Callaway X20 and she uses a SW that comes with the set. She has been played for almost two years and getting better. She starts to feel uncomfortable using X20 SW around the green. One day, she tried my blade wedge and likes it a lot. I guess it's because of its versatility.

I'm thinking about giving her my old Cleveland 588 54* and Spin Milled 60*. The problem is that she is short, like 5'1". Her X20 irons were cut down 1 inch and the lie angle has been flatten like crazy, probably 3 or 4 degree. Sure. she got fitted by Callaway club fitting professional. I can't remember.) As I know, wedge's shaft is stiff flex and, if it is cut down for an inch, it will be stiffer.

I rarely see her full swing a SW tho. The gap between SW and PW is small.

Should I cut it down or install a new shaft? For a new shaft, what kind of shaft and spec would be suitable for her? Thanks for help!

I would say, just cut it down an inch.

Most golfers rarely take a full swing with a sand or lob wedge, so the extra stiffness really won't be an issue.

All wedges come with basically the same "wedge flex" shaft, so reshafting will just get you the same shaft you already have.

I really don't think there will be a problem. The shaft may be ever so slightly stiffer, but the club will be significantly lighter, which will make it easier to swing.

Good for her, you're a good husband!

I got a set of clubs for my wife once... Good trade huh?

Here is a link for a story on wedge shafts (it was just posted a day or so ago). Basically, what the writer is saying is that shafts in wedges should 'approximate' the flex of the shafts in your irons. In this case, cutting your shafts for your wife might not be the best option. Either new shafts or buy her new wedges (instead of your devious plan to give her your old wedges then buy new for you... ). I know Cleveland at least has made wedges specifically for women. I'm not sure about other manufacturers, though. Flex, length and lie angle are still important with wedges for women just like they are for men (although it's probably one of the least 'fit' clubs in the bag for most golfers).

If you aren't using your Cleveland wedges (which you aren't according to your sig) then it really wouldn't hurt to cut them down, put on some women's grips, and let her try. You could always extend the shafts back.

One day, she tried my blade wedge and likes it a lot. I guess it's because of its versatility.

If she likes your blade wedge after the demo, why not let her demo the other wedges before cutting anything? They may work just fine right out of the garage. Sounds to me like she's looking for a better chipping club, if the shaft works "as-is"... Maybe just give her your blade wedge and get a new stick for yourself. Sounds like a win-win!

Thanks for all inputs!

I am no way justified to buy new sticks for myself because last year I replaced those two wedges I plan to give her with two Fourteen wedges... So, I'm a good husband who is trying to get rid of my old stuffs .

I just saw a new Cleveland CG14 Bloom wedge for lady on the website. It is shorter and comes with lady flex. Most importantly, it's green. I will show her and see if she likes it.

The previous CG14 lady is pink and she hates it. With three observations consisting of my wife and her friends, I can say that an appearance is the primary concern for a woman golfer. She can't let a *pink* in her bag full of *blue*. (she has X20, TM CGB Max driver, divine line putter...all blue!).
