Wow! I played a scramble at Chambers Bay in Tacoma earlier this week. The layout and location is a dream. A perfect NW spring day did not hurt, either. The course is not yet in US Amatur or US Open shape, but for us it was perfect. The course can surely play longer, but we found it to be challenging with the breeze. Some serious grade and elevation changes require significant thought, especially on your approaches, and the greens are tough but equitable. I highly recommend anyone who may have a chance to play the course to do so. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the setting is as good as it can get.

Indeed, it is a really good and fun course. You should also try the Home Course in DuPont Wa.

When I played there is was perfect links conditions, a nice cold 35 mph wind coming right off of the sound, I shot 88 and was happy with that.

I think the course is really going to come together this summer.

Hole #5 should be intersting with the 80ft elevated tees to the short right green location or the long street green location.

Hole #7 with the blinded second shot to elevated green.
Hole #8 a 602 yard up hill par 5 that plays on the 100' hill side.
Hole #9 227 yard par 3 from a 100ft elevated tee srounded with deep bunkers.

I believe holes 7, 8, 9 will become the toughtest three hole stretch on the West Coast in due time.

Hole #12 driveable par 4 very risky hole, big green with lots of slope.

Hole #15 a par 3 with the only tree on the course.

Hole #16 only the shot makers will score here.

Hole #18 the tournament and be lost here on Sunday requires an straight tee shot and a steady hand on the green.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
