I am getting the X22's today! Hooray! I was going to get 4-PW but if I get an 8 club set, I get a free wedge!!! I have Warrior wedges now... 52, 56 and 60... I like the Wedges I have but would replace the 56 to give my brother a handmedown!!!

Now.... I am getting 4-PW... Do I add the 3? or should I get an AW ? Perhaps the SW and get the wedge a diff Degree?

HELP!!

Do you like hitting your 3 iron? If so, that's the direction you go. My wedges are my scoring clubs, I only go to the PW on any irons I have ever used. But YMMV. I think you'll like the 22's.

I have some made in China I got and played with for 3 years. I demoed the x22 and it was like the power of Phil took over me. I could not believe the diffrence in the ball flight. It could be mental but whatever works! I think I am only going to go to the PW as well. I just dont feel right hitting a "stock" SW. I think I am going to try the 3. I was going to get a hybrid but I dont have one now so I will not miss it!

If your a single digit hdcp, you could probably get away with a 3 iron. But if your a higher handicap player, go for a gap or A wedge. I carry four wedges, all callaway. PW, 52, 56sw, 60.

Read last months golf digest. They have a phil mikelson article on how to hit your wedges... found it extremely helpful.

Good luck

I have Warrior wedges 52, 56, 60. I think I am going to go for the "stock" 4-AW and then get the free 56 wedge. Retire the Warrior one!

don't you need to wait to return the driver you were talking about in the other thread before buying the new irons

or did you already keep the squareway and trade in the FT-iQ under 90/90? What wedge configuration do you want and what lofts are available in the X-22's?

I am going to buy the driver, and return it after dinner and grab the irons! You get 1 wedge when you buy 8 iron set. If you don't play a 3 iron (like me), then I would get 4-AW and get a 56-58* wedge for the free one.

That is what I am thinking. The "stock" 51 would be fine to use and I would play with a real wedge for the times I got to the beach and around the green. Retire the warrior Gap and Sand!

Isn't this thread eerily similar to the other thread you have regarding wedges and using the SW that comes with the set?

Yah they are similar. One is how I should build the set of irons and the other is about the wedges with a set vs the blades. I like the blades so I wouldnt do 4-PW, SW... prob just get the AW or see if I can get the free wedge if I get 4-pw and a 3 hyb.

I got the 56 wedge and the irons 3-PW. I also got the squareway 3w for the dollar after i returned the FTiQ. I told the manager what I wanted to do and he said he didnt care and wanted to see if ti worked. It did! I went out Sat and golfed +2 on a par 32 pitch putt and 94 on Sunday!

    • Just listened to episode 19 on grip strength. Very interesting stuff. I missed what the long drive competitors grip strength is, but presumably very high.  I suspect that part of the correlation between grip strength and speed is that general body strength is likely correlated well with club head speed and it's difficult to do a full body workout without going to town on your grip. Deadlifts are frequently recommended as a good exercise to do for golf and for a lot of people grip strength is the limiting factor on what they can deadlift. Doing deadlifts will improve your grip strength, so quite plausibly grip strength and club head speed are both caused by making yourself stronger.  Do you have any charts about how grip pressure changes through the swing? I'd be interested to see that.  Lastly, last week I played a tournament round and as I played was thinking about my grip strength and I noticed I was gripping it pretty hard. Then I realized after the round (I did not play very well at all) that I had been very tense throughout my body and I'm now wondering if that tension is the cause of my poor play. I have five tournament rounds and three casual rounds in the last three months. tournament rounds are 84, 81, 80, 81, and 81. Casual rounds are 71, 70, and 72. I wonder if that's caused by tension making it past my wrists. That's a long way of saying the last little bit Erik added rang true with me.  Great episode!
    • Let's go Rors   Justin Thomas' stupid little button-down sweater with the bottom button undone is stupid
    • Eric, Man, I'm sorry. This video is just too damned boring. I don't know what's going on like half the time. I've tried to watch it a couple of times but I get like 5 to 10 minute in and realize I'm thinking about what I'm going to make for dinner or if I should do laundry on Saturday or if I should do it on Sunday. Then I try to restart it and pay attention and my mind wanders again.  I just can't get through it. Sorry, man.
    • I think I remember reading that Wilco Nienaber broke some record for having the fastest hands at around 27mph. His clubhead speed is probably of the order of 130mph or so, so that's roughly 5 times as fast. As Erik said, the math gets very complicated - it's at least a double pendulum system, but also with the "fixed" point moving and all the forces and torques applying to the club and the hands and the rest of the player start to get very complicated. My coach works with a biomechanist and between them they've put out a few books on the physics of the swing and it's hella complicated, but fascinating.
