And he was wearing it so it looked like it shrunk in the wash!

I am also cheering for Rory.

He's going for that carelessly disheveled look but it comes off so manufactured and deliberate. Kind of like Boris Johnson. Tool.

That’s a solid analysis I must completely agree with.

TV just posted Scheffler's fewest fairways hit in a round. A US Open he hit 2 fairways and shot 72, yesterday at Portrush 3 fairways and shot 68, and 2020 PGA Championship, 4 fairways and shot 65. Just in case anyone wanted some ammo for the fairways hit being a pretty useless stat for determining score on a given day.

Brysons bounce back was impressive.  Shane’s ball in the 12 fairway moved.  Who else saw that?  He addresses it, steps away, it rolls like a quarter or half turn.  Then he comes back and hits it.  I don’t think he even saw it, he turned away so fast.

You're talking about a completely different shot than the one where he made it move, though, no? That was in the rough and he didn't address it, he took a practice swing that clearly moved stuff that caused the ball to move. And visible to the naked eye, no doubt, to me.

Yes - if he doesn't catch a penalty for that I'll be very surprised. I assume it's only one stroke though and not a second for not replacing it - I don't think he would have seen it move.

Two. He's required to replace it and did not.

Obviously he wouldn't know he had to replace it, but the rule applies to all situations where a player causes his ball to move.

This is a fun leaderboard. I don't feel particularly vested in anyone specifically albeit we all know one man is looking like he will most probably put this championship to sleep by the time the day is over today.

On a different note, I've changed my tune on BDC in the last year or so. I found myself applauding and genuinely happy for him for making the cut yesterday. Iffff a LIV guy wins this year I would rather it be him. Unlikely Scottie who seems to have supreme control of all his levers, he lives a bit more on the edge and yet has the perseverance and might I say, infectious positivity of a small time hustler. Dude just keeps hammering away. Love it.

Yeah, that’s the weird part.  It was that same shot.  My bad for saying fairway… clearly in the rough. But I didn’t see a practice swing, and it moved a lot more than the replays associated with practice swing.  Almost like he made it move a couple times and only one made the broadcast. Probably on me seeing it happen and just interpreting different.  I’m not gonna go and find the recording though.  Either way, tough situation for him.  He took both penalties and moved on… like he should.

I'd agree if you removed Scheffler. The best players in the world, by a mile, leading by four shots before Sunday isn't a dream setup for drama and entertainment.

I wrote the post before leaders tee'd off today (3rd round) when Schef was still tied with Fitz at -10. Also, if you read further I also said 'one man' will most probably put the championship to sleep by end of today..😊. Yeah, not much drama left it seems. Scheffler with a hot putter is out right frustrating for the field.

I will still watch tomorrow because the course is awesome and the play is pretty exciting in general. Players reaching deep to hang on.

Garcia hooked a drive on the second hole, slammed his driver into the ground and snapped the shaft. I don't mind. 🥳

It was a pretty good Open. Coverage was pretty bad but some good stuff to watch overall. No surprise to see Scheffler win of course. Good run by Rory, some bad breaks for sure.

Considering Scottie is 17 under through 6 and Rory is 10 under through 7, either Scottie is going to win this at a canter or Rory is going to go on a heater and challenge/beat Scottie.  Nobody else who is close enough looks capable to challenge for the win

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
