Ok, so heres the layout,

54 goes about 115, PW is right on 140-145. this is a rather large gap for me..but i have never been comfortable with a gap wedge, so my question to you is, what if i had all the lofts in my bag weakened?

so rather than a 47 43 39 35 31 27 24 21,
that i go this, 50 46 42 36 32 28 25 23

Or even to just go two degrees up so the PW is 49? this would leave a smaller gap between the PW and 54.. anyone tried this however?

your post doesnt make much sence to me..if i got a 50, i wouldnt really need to bend the pw.. plus i dont really have the room for another club.

I had a similar issue myself, my 54 went 110 yards and PW 135-140 yards. I was tying to put my 4 iron back in the bag as well to help with my long game distances. Original lofts: 58 54 47 43 39 35 31 27 24 24 degree hybrid, Had all the lofts weakened 1 or 2 degrease so new lofts are: 58 53 48 44 40 36 33 29 26 24 degree hybrid Love the changes. My new yardages are 53 115 yards PW 130-135 yards.
hope this helps

Starting with 6i my lofts are

- 32* (6i)
- 36*
- 40*
- 45*
- 50*
- 55*
- 60*

From a labeling perspective I don't have a PW. My 45* club is the 9i that I had bent from 44*. My 50* club is a gap wedge that was bent from 52* and the 55* SW was bent from 56*.

I was in the same boat. I had a 52° gap wedge. I seemed to always land in the range in between. I bent it to 50° and have had great success since. I prefer using my Gap wedge to chocking up my pitching wedge.

I would not change the loft of your iron set, but I would try the following:

1) buy a wedge that fill the gap
2) open the club face and aim slightly left to take distance off your club
3) learn to hit 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 shots
4) watch the video below

I'm in the same boat, man. I am giving the 4 wedge setup another try right now but unfortunately it doesn't feel like it's working for me. I used a gap wedge once before with much the same result, but that was over 10 years ago so I thought I'd give it another try.

Something about looking over the gap wedge when I know it's really a full-swing club for me seems to psyche me out.

With my new set of irons that are all a degree stronger though, I'm really pleased with my trajectory for once, so I don't want to tweak there. I may just end up feeling my way in from 140 with my wedge and moving to a 54* sand wedge like you've got. (And getting rid of the spin milled wedges, they are hell for me on full swings)

The other option is to go back to my old setup of 53* & 58* ... which leaves me with a lot more weird spots I need to create shots in, plus then I'm back to that whole "uncomfortable over a gap wedge" thing.

Dunno man, if I wasn't so comfortable with my traj on my irons, I might think about doing what you're talking about. I'd say it'd be worth a try weakening the short irons MAYBE 2 degrees max, then gradually weakening them less into the longer irons, like 1 degree in the mid irons. The most I'd change any long-mid irons would be a half degree, I might not even change the long irons.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
