Been playing on again- off again for a fairly long time....this is the first time I've ever owned a gap wedge.

It is one of those things that I was meaning to get around to doing....well now it's done.

Such a pleasure on those 100-85 yard distances. Prior to this I was trying to split a PW and SW....this is so much easier.

Between the addition of a couple of hybrids and this gap wedge....the game is getting easier.

You may not be able to buy a game.....but you can get the sticks to fit your needs so much easier now.

So what is your highest degree wedge? Before, did you hit for a certain yardage to the green (like a go to club) or what?

My last few sets have been PW....54 and then 58-60.

Now it's 46PW....50UW......54SW. I've always had a large gap between the PW and SW and had to adjust grip / swing with PW or SW to cover it. Now this crucial distance is so much easier to cover. It's my favorite layup position on all the par 5s of my home course. Smooth UW swing....and two putts for par....so smooth.

I'll most likely be adding a more lofted wedge, too.....vs. a 5 wood or 2 hybrid.

My 51* wedge is my most used club. It's money from 75-105 yards (3/4 to full swing) as well as chipping and pitching. It's just a very versatile club. I have been carrying a GW for 6-7 years now between my sets, all between 49* and 53*.

Hybrids and a GW? What could possibly next for you Dub? I'm thinking ball-launcher to replace driver...

I have no 100 yard club. I have been hitting half pitching wedges, but a full gap just seems so much easier. I just don't know what to take out...

It looks like you already have one too many clubs? Or do you swap the 3-iron/hybrid depending on the course?

The most logical choice would probably be the 3 iron. How much do you even use that club? And isn't the 22* hybrid about the same distance? A GW is almost definitely going to be used more than 3 iron and/or the 4 iron (especially with the hybrid and a 5 wood). The game is all about scoring and clubs at that end get used a lot less than wedges. A 100 yard full swing club is a gem.

I'm still a little undecided. Took the 22* hybrid with me to the course the other day and hit it about 5 yards longer than my 3 iron. Definitely more versatile and 75% sure it will be staying in the bag. Just a bit too much draw with it.

Right, very true. I often find myself laying up to 100 yds and then realizing I don't have anything to hit. Like I said above, the 3 iron is probably out for now and the 22* in. If I take out the 4 iron though, I think I will have too large of a gap. My 5 iron is about 165-170 and the hybrid about 190. Maybe replacing the 3 and 5 wood with a 4 wood would solve the problem. Or perhaps getting a 54*, 58* wedge setup.

I've got a brand new gap wedge sitting here with me that I'm about to stick in the bag. I've always just played a part PW or a bump-and-run when I'm 90-100 out but since I got a new set of irons with a 46* PW the gap between that and my 56 is a bit too much. I quite often find myself 100 or so yards out on the par 5s on my course so it should be a good club to have.

Absolutely!!!

Same thing on my home course. We have red, white and blue stakes in the center of each fairway marking the 100, 150 and 200yd distances to the center of the greens. The red stakes are perfect aiming points for laying up on the par 5's for me...and sometimes perfect for the par 4's. Having a perfect 100yd wedge just simplifies the game sooooo much. You don't have to manufacture anything...grip down...take something off...open the face a bit...etc....forget all that and simply swing away and reach for your putter. 2009 has certainly been a milestone year for me...equipment wise. I'm all about making things easier. The gap wedge certainly does that.

I was looking for one of these, but it doesn't come in a 12guage.... lol

On topic... I just got my 51* Gap and played one round so far. I LOVE it! It's like getting dressed with the lights on.....sooo much easier!

For my Gap wedge, I dropped my distance club. I'm making a move back to that club as I got a new 4 fairway wood coming. I've got a 2 hybrids for the top of my set and going 2, 4, and irons starting at 5, dropped the 5 wood spot. Love having a club for between my PW and SW. I only use it as an iron though. I don't use it as a wedge because I don't really have a half shot or 1/4 shot with it. I use my irons for anything between full shot and 3/4ths, really nothing else (besides impromptu shots). Love having a full shot all the way down to my Lob wedge to cover those distances.

After missing two greens from 100 yds by flying over the green with a knockdown PW, I'm putting in the gap wedge. Taking out the 3 iron. Going driver, 3W, 5W, 4-PW, 52*, 56*, 60*.

I have a Vokey GW, still trying to learn how to use it. I do okay with my PW, quarter- and half-shots, but I figure I need to learn to use the GW & SW. Practice, practice, practice!
