Does this ever happen to anyone. Working on my swing very hard and have made some adjustments. Take it to the course and played four days straight two weeks ago, all four days striking the ball great and really feeling the swing. The following week went to the range twice cause of busy work schedule, didnt get to the course, and am having trouble repeating that same motion. Maybe it sounds weird I dont know but this really sucks. Its like Im almost there but there is something preventing me from making that same swing. This happen to you guys, where the club all of a sudden feels kind of weird?

Happened to me this past weekend. I had 2 rounds in a row of 73 and 76 and then didn't play for almost a week and all of a sudden I couldn't break 80. The best advice I can give you is to calm yourself down (you probably feel a bit stressed out) and try to remember some swing thoughts or feelings that got you in the groove in the first place. Go spend a little time on the range and concentrate on only one or two things and you should feel it start to click again.

I just want to see if anyone else has advice for this as well. It seems that nearly every golfer goes through something like this probably a few times (being generous) in their playing days. What do you do to make sure things start to feel right again.

Fahoo good advice by the way.

My advice? Look up the thread on "Fallback Flaws" and go from there. 95% of the time, poor ballstriking and play can be traced back to one or two of my three fallback flaws.

I think 'mental game' is a very loose term when used in golf. It seems to have a few different meanings / implications for different people, which is because of varying beliefs "under" their idea of what mental game means - it's abstracted, not a "base". As such I think it's confusing to people at first because it takes experience before you can appreciate the value of that symbol (all meanings are valuable to your golf game, and there are often a few within the one). I think it would be beneficial to come to a sort of agreement and break down the whole into pieces so it's simpler to really direct your focus into impoving every aspect of your game..

With that rambling aside the swing is mostly a mental aspect of your game. With that said I'd think it's more important to "remember your new swing" instead of "(not/) forgetting your old one". What I try and do is go to the range and find my improved swing with a lot of swing thoughts. Once I find it I take away my swing thoughts at a natural pace until it's a feeling and not a thought. Then repetition with the eventual feel of the successful swing as long as possible. This will build your muscle memory to your new swing. Then take the feeling with you. I know people say have a swing thought but I try not to (not easy and takes a lot of that practice) and focus on the feel.. it's easier to get into the "zone" that way and you won't mess up your rhythm and tempo by over-thinking.. to me one "swing thought" is enough to do that.

I currently still have swing thoughts which I try to put into motion in my pre-shot routine so I don't have to worry about it much during the actual swing..

Then your old problems will creep back.. kindof like subconsious emotional scars from your golf childhood This is why I like how Erik knows all his fallback flaws
