Hey Guys.

Ive been playing pretty much the same set since 8th grade (im 21 now), and now that I am playing regularly Im looking to upgrade.

Currently Have a Callaway BB ti 454 driver 10* loft with a regular shaft.
And the rest is from an old Wilson set, plus my alienhead.

I played rather well with my BB but lately Ive got more comfortable and my swing speed has come up considerably and I think I need a stiff shaft and Id prefer a 9* loft. Friend of mine has a Sumo2 with a stiff shaft and even when I really hammer on it I can still hit consistently.

So ill probably stay with the same type club just a 9* loft and stiffer shaft.

Ive been hitting some fairway woods and am still undecided.

The Irons is where Im getting confused. I think I need some GI irons. I play pretty well and rather consistent with what I have, but not always.

Im not looking to spend too much, cause the camaro still sucks up most of my money.

Im looking at the Slingshots, the Sumos, the R7s and the BB 06.

After reading up on Pinemeadow I may even consider the BK Irons, wiht the money back garauntee if I dont like them hell I just send them back.

What I really worry about is my grips. My current ones tear my hands up and slip quite a bit.
The other day I was messin around in academy and saw some cheap wilson irons with an awesome grip, it was a real soft plush leather.

I woudl really liek to have something like that, they have a little more give than the rest of my grips and feel great in my hands.

Are these types of grips reccomended and what are they called? IF they are ill probably have soemthing similar on whatever I get.

I plan to go get my swing analyze and get fitted to figure out what shaft length I need on sunday.

Any reccomendations or suggestions

a couple things...

grips - use whatever you like the best... a firm grip will give you a little more control and more feel, but will also be a little more harsh on the hands. Popular grips to try... Winn G8, Xi7 and Pci, Golf Pride Multi Compound or New Decade, and of course Tour Velvets. The other issue is to get the right size... longest fingers should lightly touch lower hand, but not dig in.

driver loft - 9* is pretty low and honestly I would be shocked if a 20 handicap would be best fit with such a low loft... it is possible, but unlikely. Get fitted or hit a couple drivers on a monitor just to see some numbers. Look at ballflight, a nice high flight is a good thing as long as it is not balooning.

irons - the difference between SGI, GI, players, and blades is workability and forgiveness. These two factors work against eachother and you must decide which will be best for you. Slingshots are more SGI while R7's are more GI. With the R7's you'll have more control over the ball, but will loose some forgiveness. Still the R7 is very forgiving and you would likely be fine with it... it just depends on preference. The lower your handicap goes the more likely it is you will want smaller, less forgiving, more workable irons.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Well with my 10 degree, Im gettin a ton of height, seems like it may be too much, kinda dying way up in the air. Id venture to say that Im probably loosing some distance, but we will see for sure this weekend.

Ill probably go with the R7s. I hit them and I really liked them, and they are plenty forgiving for me. Plus I can get a set 4-pw for 320 brand new.

These gigagolf and pinemeadowgolf irons have really got my interested though, seems like they are rather cheap and i really like how I canhave them built how I need them.

Apparently I need standard length -1 degree lie, standard grip, S or X flex and then they reccomended two shafts. True temper dynamic gold or FM precision rifle. For 234 bucks I think it sounds pretty good, especially since they are my specifications.

If I were you, I'd just change the shaft in the driver to stiff (after getting your swing analyzed for club fitting. I agree, don't go under 10 degrees until your handicap is around ten.

Grips, I've tried them all, and think they are very important.
I have settled on Golf Pride New Decade.

If I were you, I'd get a used set to save lots of money. If the grips are worn, just regrip.

Hey Guys.

You could be in luck if you have a Dicks Sporting Goods in the area....they have all the swing analizers and such....can really narrow things down for you....as well as running some really great deals right now. They want charge you for the evaluation, either. Make sure you check with discountdansgolf.com before you buy anything....their prices are ridiculous......and they do all the custom lengths and lie angles, too. Good luck.

Is it harder to play with a low loft driver or something? I really dont have problem off the tee box.

If I were you, I'd get a used set to save lots of money. If the grips are worn, just regrip.

Honestly, if you are really serious about getting new equipment, i would really recommend going to a local golf shop or bigger retailer with a launch monitor and hitting some balls. Talk with them about what you are looking for...some shops will not charge you to use the launch monitor, some may charge a little fee to use it...either way, you know what is recommended for you. Then if you want to go to ebay, global golf, or any online site to get used clubs, then you will know what to look for. You never know, you may find what you want at the shop. That's just my suggestion. Good luck in your search...it's always fun looking for new equipment.
