Well I'm looking for some more help from you guys. Its time to get a new everything, but I am going to be on somewhat of a budget.

First thing I am going to buy is going to be a new driver considering that somewhere in the years break that I took, someone either stole or borrowed my old driver without returning it, so therefore I need to get a new one. I am probably going to be in the 100-175 range, but could possibly do 200, but that will hold me back with other clubs as well.

Next I am going to buy a new putter. I have been looking at the Odyssey 2-ball but am open to any suggestions. I am going to spend hopefully up to 100 on a new putter, but I'd like to get out for a little less. I really hope I can luck up and get a great deal on a used Odyssey or something.

The next purchase is going to be a set of irons. Completely a novice to what I want to get. I have no clue. Please give many suggestions. I am going to go hit with a friend of mine at a golf shop hopefully next week to get somewhat of a better idea. I need something that will be forgiving.

After the irons It will be time to get some new woods. What do you guys and gals think?

Also, I'd like some more opinions on the Nickent drivers and woods. I've read a lot of good things on here about it, but havn't heard much other than here. Input please.

Any help will be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance!

For the driver I'd suggest you take a look at Nickent or on ebay Nike Sasquatchs and Sumo 5000's are going for about $100.

I just bought a New Nike 13* Sasquatch with a UST V2 shaft, Nickent 3DX DC 17* Hybrid (slightly used) and New Nickent 20 3DX RC 20* Hybrid for $185 all together. Great deal! Just shop around read reviews and do your best to find the best deal

I will make a few general suggestions...

I got a Callaway Big Bertha 460 driver from Amazon just last week. Played with it today, great driver. Got it for $149. Below is the link. Awesome club. I think it came from Golfsmith, but sold on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Callaway-Berth...0720781&sr;=8-4

I also got some great balls at a killer deal, Precept Laddie X, for $17.99 for two dozen. I ordered six as I have played these before and loved them. A softer ball much like the Maxfli Noodle. Below is the link on Amazon where I got mine. Fast shipping too.

For irons, look at something that is very forgiving, made for high handicaps. I saw some awesome deals on Callaway preowned the other day. That is where I got my 1994 (or similar) model of the Callaway Big Bertha Gold irons. Just awesome clubs. I saw a used set for like $270 on the site yesterday. This is a great way to get a set of irons. They will adjust lie and length, new grips, etc.. at the time of order. Great service and I recommend them highly.

For putters, this is a tricky one man. Just go to a shop and putt a bunch with different models. So hard to suggest one. The Odysey two ball is very, very popular. I have one, but did not like it so much. I prefer a more traditional putter though. Might make you an offer on mine. Not even sure what its worth to be honest. But it is nearly brand new. Just played a few rounds with it and it has been in the closet ever since. I will look into that and shoot you a pm if I decide to let her go.

Wedges, lob, sand, gap, are worth looking into. This is an area that will help most anyone score better. Lots of choices here with Cleveland and Titleist Vokey at the top of my list. I am in the market for a new set myself. With that said, I have three Dunlop Berylium Copper wedges that I might sell you if you want them. I can get some pictures at home and email them to you if interested. I won't have much use for them after ordering the new Clevelands I have been salivating over all week.

Let me know if you want pics of the Odysey or Dunlop wedges.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'm looking around at that Nike driver. How do you like yours?

Dan,

If you do decide to sell that putter, please let me know. I have a pretty decent PW at the moment, but I'll need a new lob and SW, and would be interested in all 3 from you.

Please send me some pictures whenever you get a chance.

I like the driver a lot, the 13* is the most common driver on ebay at the moment, but im sure you can find a lower lofted driver if needed.

As for the wedge set and the Odysey, I will get some pictures to you tomorrow (later this morning that is). I am at work now, but will be happy to do this later today. It is good stuff, I just don't have a need for it. I am not into collecting golf equipment, but the wife would disagree:) If you want the wedges and putter after seeing the pics, I will make you a good deal. I could use some money for green fees. Ha ha..

The Nike deal is pretty sweet. Driver and fairway wood for $200. Adams Tom Watson 3 wedge set is also a nice deal at $70. A used Odyssey putter can definitely go for less than $100. Iron set, if your looking to get something new, you have to decide if you want one of those combo sets where like the 3 & 4 comes in a hybrid. Regular non-combo set can be something like the Wilson Ci7's or Callaway X-18's for $400. So an entire new bag of clubs would cost you only $750.

I'm playing with an all new bag....best thing is that every club was custom fit and made to my specs by the manf. (driver and 3 wood are stock)....and....bought at a huge discount....anywhere from 40% to 70%.

I've never been happier with any set of sticks I've ever had, either. Fitting makes all the difference....shot shape, trajectories, ease of swinging, forgiveness.......everything.

You can get huge discounts and get fitted clubs if you shop around.

Dub,

I am planning on going and getting fitted next week so I can swing something that is actually set up for me! You should see me playing with my clubs now....I look kind of ridiculous. I'm about 6'2 and I'm swinging clubs that are probably for someone around 5'9-10. I can tell they are pretty short.

I really am interested in the Nike clubs. They don't seem to be as expensive as some others and I havn't heard too many negative things about them. I'm really interested in the Sumo Driver like yours and the hybrids as well. I really like the X-18 irons and Odyssey putters.

I think the Cleveland Hibore XLS has to be at the top of value for money. I'll bet you can pick one up for $150 or less.

As for putters, it's all about feel. I'll bet you can find one you like at a pretty good price if you try out as many as you can.

so many options to choose from.

irons: Wilson Staff Ci7's or Mizuno MX-200's

Driver: Used Callaway FT-i or Nike driver or brand new Nickent off Ebay for $100ish

Woods/Hybrids: NICKENT NICKENT NICKENT. my Nickent 4DX #5 fairway wood is the best ive ever used. you can also get brand new Sonartec woods on ebay right now for $60-$70, but I would suggest Nickent over Sonartec. although still a little pricey, the Nickent 5DX hybrids are the best hybrids i have ever hit.

if you want new CHEAP Nickent stuff, go to thecluboutlet.com . you wont believe the prices

putters: too personal for me to suggest.

Look at ebay, check dealer ratings. This doesn't even begin to list the stuff I've gotten at incredible prices on ebay. I got my Bridgestone Mid irons, graphite shaft for $125, Callaway BBII 12* Driver $36, Bridgestone GC Hybrids for $25-$36, 2 ball putter for $55, Taylormade R7 Superquad $145 (a year ago), Nike Sumo2 SQ 5900 Driver (a month after they came out) $167. All this new! Wilson Di7 and Nike CCI (6 months after they came out) for less than $300 each.
Irons: Check out the Wilson Di7, Taylormade r7 draw, Bridgestone GC OS, or Adams a3OS (a bit more expensive, but they come with 3-4 hybrids and 5-6 "kinda" hybrids. I could not hit the true hybrids, but was able to sell them and buy Bridgestone GC Hybrids).
Get a bit more loft on the driver than you think you need, my Sumo is 16*. The Sumo's are around $100 now, but if you need to save some cash, the Nike Ignite 460 (not the 450's) can be had in 13* for less than $50 (used) and they are an awesome driver. If I were going to spend $100, I'd steer you toward the Callaway FT-i, mine's 13* and very forgiving. A lot of people have said the FT-i is not as long as other drivers, but I have not found that to be the case. Besides, 10 yards shorter and in the fairway gives you a better shot at par than 10 yards longer behind a tree/in a bunker/water/rough, etc.
Putters, very personal, but, the 2 ball line is a good choice it that's your thing. I've got a dfx, the other inserts (white hot) are too soft for me and I leave everything dead center short! I'm experimenting with the F7 because I love the look and I do play some fast greens on the odd occassion. The best all around mallet for me is the Ping Craz-e, #1 on my list. Hope that helps. ...jmoc

I purchased my driver and fairway woods from Callaway's used store. The clubs were brand new, still shrink-wrapped, and I saved $150 over retail.

Well, next week I am going to go hit at the local golf shop and get fitted and see if anything stands out but as of right now I'm leaning towards the Nickent 4dx driver or Nike Sumo 5900, Nickent Hybrids, Couple different irons (callaway x-18, mizuno mx-200, etc.) Odyssey putter.

What are some suggestions for fairway woods?

Ping G5's.... I actually prefer them to the G10's. Wilson Staff FY line is nice also but I think you'll find a really good price on those G5's.

Generally speaking, golf equipment has a huge mark up. I get most my stuff about 1-2 years after it comes out. Driver and fairway woods for sure. That $300 driver will be $149 before you know it. When the new model (or two) comes out, the prices drop big time. For drivers and fairway woods, check Edwin Watts, The Golf Warehouse, and Golfsmith websites. Look at the "sale" sections. Lots of good deals to be found. I have some Callaway Great Big Bertha titanium woods that would be very cheap if you can still find them. Awesome fairway woods. But I am a Callaway guy I guess. I have always been impressed with their woods/irons. Check into the Callaway preowned site I mentioned earlier. Great deals to be found there for sure.

I just update my entire bag this month. A lot of people put down Nike but I have spent the last year hitting ever club known to man and the Nike line of products for the price is out of this world. I just picked up a set of Ignites at Dicks Sporting Goods last week for $299 new. I got the 5900 driver and a free fairway woods for $199 as well. The unitized putter retailed for $299 once, I got it for $89 bucks. Grant it all these clubs are 2007 models but for the price and my budget you can't beat it. It's finally nice to have a decent set of sticks!

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
