Guys,

I have a Classic #1 and love it, but have been having trouble with the 3-5 footers, making a jaby stroke for some reason. The weird thing is I am making more of the 8-20 footers. I was thinking maybe 340 is a bit light for the short strokes and would like to add some weight. I know scottys come 340/350/360.

Can some of you who have putted with different head mass give some insight on differences for those of us just trying it out.

Maybe would like to add 5 to 10 grams of lead tape and see what happens.

TIA

I love a heavier putter. My putter head is 355 and I have added a lot of weight in the shaft. It's over 500g now, believe it or not. I would suggest you rip the grip off, put sand or some sort of powder weight in the shaft and cork it. It will do the same thing without the nasty look of lead tape and it is easily adjustable before you cork it.

Thanks Neudi,

I was thinking of lead tape because if I don't like it could remove it easily.

Can you comment on what has taken you to the heavier putters?? Short ones, lag, better stroke??

If you have an electronic scale, I'd just use that. But I love the weighting on the Classic 1 putter!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I perfer a lighter putter head. I doesnt feel like i have to fight the putter as much. I can control speed with my arms more without feeling the putter in my hand. Call me limp wristed... Ive adjusted to the 350gs the putter i game now, but i woundnt mind if it was even 10 or 15 grams lighter. Until i got my scotty, i was using ping ansers which kind of run on the light side.

Doing more research I found that the Classic #1 has an estimated swingweight of D2 at 340 grams / 34".

I am going to add lead tape and take it to around D5 to see how it feels. That should help stabilize the head on the short putts.

I have a read quite a bit and a lot of people like to putt with D5 and above.

Would like to hear from those of you that monitor swingweight on the putter.

I added 9 grams of lead tape to the head and got it to 349 grams.

That took the swing weight between D4 and D5. My stroke improved drastically in the practice green and on the putting training aid I have at home. I have one of the 7 ft putting greens at home and went nuts, made 150 straight puts and got tired jaja. I will keep going to see how many putts I can make without missing.

For anyone interested I will let you know how it goes when I get out to the course. If anything I will add a bit more weight to get it to D5-D6.

ive done a lot of experimentation over the years and i have come to the conclusion that anything over 350 grams is just too heavy for me and i have a hard time with judging distances. i have found 340-345 grams is perfect for me

    • Day 128: 5/3/24 Spent 10 minutes chipping and putting at The Creek golf course after visiting a relative.  Greens are slow, and I putted quite well. Perhaps I should seek courses with much slower greens!
    • Not to take away from the OP's question but the Snell 3.0 is about all you could ask for in a ball. I'm not a paid spokesman and my opinion does not reflect on the owner of the site. Lexi Thompson could beat most people with a Top Flite, or a Nitro. Ben Griffin? He doesn't offer a lot of street cred so I'll pass. Now if Fat Perez or Heavy Ballesteros start using it then?????? 😀
    • Just read that Peter Oosterhuis passed away. He was the one and only celebrity I have asked for an autograph! In September 2007, I was in the Charlotte Airport awaiting a flight reading my October 2007 Golf Magazine. It was during the FedEx playoffs and Tiger had just won the previous tournament with the Tour Championship the next event. I watched the event listening to the dulcet tones of Peter Oosterhuis, among others. I opened the magazine, and started reading an article about Oosterhuis and the opening picture had him posing as James Bond in a movie’s opening sequence. I looked up from the article and he was sitting directly across from me!    I approached and showed him the article and asked if he would sign the photo. Mr. Oosterhuis asked “Are you keen on golf?” When I responded positively, we spoke for about 10 minutes discussing the fact that both Phil and Tiger had won FedEx events prior to the Tour Championship. He was very gracious and a wonderful storyteller. I was saddened by his battles with dementia and missed him on CBS’s telecasts.
    • Day 50. Hand path follow through and face control technique work. 🤯 in a good way.
    • I have been playing the Tour X for several years and find it to be a great ball. I buy them at Golf Galaxy and they often run sales. Was able you buy a box of 48 for $90 after applying a coupon from Dick’s Sporting Goods. I am a big fan!
