TM R7 Superquad or FT-iQ, what to choose?

Hi,

Two years ago I bought my Nike Sumo2 squared driver. I was pretty young and new at golfing back then, so I wanted a driver that went straight, and it did....

Now I am in for more power and distance, as I feel the ballflight with the Sumo driver is too slow and it doesn`t feel as much as a drive as it could be.

I`ve been interested in a Taylor Made Superquad for a long time, as I think it looks powerful, sleek and funny to hit.
Also, I think the FT-iQ is sexy, and appearance has a lot to say when it comes to clubs (don`t know why, though).

The raw details when it comes to my new driver is as following:
*I want power and distance
*I know how to hit the ball clean, so it doesn`t need to have forgiveness as top priority

Do you guys know what to do? I am not as experienced in the golf club department.

ive hit both and prefer the FT-iQ. but thats just me. everyone is different

If you don't mind about forgiveness, go with the FT-9...my opinion it hits longer than both the iq and superquad and still gives you the aesthetics you'd like

You could probably get the Superquad pretty cheap by now.

My vote is the TM. Long and straight when I hit it. It has an interesting feel to it to me... almost soft. Not insert soft like a putter but... softer than most. Some of friends felt the same and didn't like it at all. I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice though.

I'd reccomend the superquad because of both price and performance. I think you're the only person I've met who likes the look of the FT-IQ. Personally I would rate it as the ugliest club I have ever seen. But that's not the reason I'm reccomending the Superquad over it.

If you are looking for a driver that is made for distance then the Cleveland Hi-Bore Monster is what your looking for, its ugly but it carries miles and stays pretty straight

What conclusion can I draw from this? Haha...

I hope to see more responses, as it seems there`s pretty spread meanings.

Edit: Also; I`ve never been disappointed by Taylor Made, I have a iron set from them, my dad has the TM Burner driver (I recommended it to him, as I loved it, and now he loves it too). I also use Taylor Made balls.

Have you considered Tour burner?
I have recently gone back to my R7 425 TP, its still the best driver ive ever hit! Love the looks and feel, and the face is not closed, wich help me avoid my super Mega Hooks

I'm a taylormade guy. I just like their stuff better then Callaway, look, feel, etc. Eventhough I'm a bit biased, I'd say go for the superquad. It's a bit outdated in TM's line, even though it's not that old of a model and is a great club so your prices on it will be much better than the iQ.

I recently went through buying a new driver experience and ended up (finally) with the TaylorMade R7 Limited. I hit pretty much every driver made the last 3-4 years or so and it basically came down to the R7 Ltd., Mizuno MP-600 and the Adams Speedline. I liked those 3 because of feel and sound (plus the Miz and TM recently had huge price drops). I tried all of the Callaway drivers as well, including the FT-i, FT-i LCG, FT-5, FT-9 and the FT-iQ. Of all of them I probably prefered the feel and ball flight of the FT-5 the best, with the FT-iQ second, but I just don't like the sound of the Callaway drivers - it drives me nuts.

When it comes down to it I think the SuperQuad is the best deal because it can be tweaked to address issues with your ball flight that might come up from time to time. With that said, it's really important that you hit these drivers yourself (as well as other models - try not to be biased against other manufacturers/models without trying them as objectively as possible). I hate the sound of Callaway, but some people like it much better than the sounds of other drivers.

Okay, now I`ve received an offer for a TaylorMade SQ Proto 282. It`s mine for 400$. Never heard of the "proto 282", what is good about it and is it worth 400 dollars?

I will prompt my answer with this: I play the FT-9 and it's the longest driver I have ever played. I am consistently hitting it 300 yds. Now my answer...Superquad. A friend of mine who I play a lot with uses one and he can do everything with it. Bomb it and work it. I pick the superquad as my response only because of the choices...I don't know how anyone can hit the iQ it just looks funny at address.

If you are willing to take other options and it seems that cost is not a factor, try the FT-9. It's the best driver I have ever hit, and I am a club ho. I try a lot of drivers every year.

I play the superquad w/ a ust v2 x flex.... i've played it for a while now and its an absolute rocket launcher... great driver!! can't comment on the iq cause i've never put it in play!! but the quad is solid

I havn't hit either, but I was in your same dilemma yesterday between the Burner and the Diablo. I went with TM and I couldn't be happier. I got it and the fairway wood and love them. Hope this helps.
