Hate my new grips; what to do?

I just had my clubs re-gripped with the Golf Pride New Decade Multi-Compounds. While I thought these grips were great in the store, I hated them after the first round. They were far too rough on my hands and simply didn't feel right for me. Obviously, these were expensive grips. I don't re-grip myself, so am I just out of luck or is there any chance Golfsmith might work with me?

I've seen some places that use an air compressor to get them off safely. You can try to find a place to do that and salvage them. Someone would buy them from you. And then you can buy something different. Live and learn.

Grips can be removed without damaging them. Ask golfsmith if they can help you out. Maybe they could remove them for you to sell on ebay?
PS If you like the look of the new decade grips them try the Sharpro dual compound grips, they are available without the cord and are a bit softer and much cheaper then new decades and look identical.

I would give them a try for a few rounds. I had some full cords put on a few years back. Felt like sandpaper compared to my Winn grips. But after a few weeks, I got used to them and enjoyed them for a long, long, time. You have already dropped the dough. You won't get a refund on grips you had put on your clubs. I say grip it and rip it (wear a glove)... ha ha... Seriously, consider giving them a few rounds of play. You may feel differently a few weeks later about changing them.

So wait you got cords and didn't know they were going to be rough . Ehh its tough luck. Try and get them off and see what you can do. Next time you get grips like that, just get one and play a round with it to see if you like it.

No, I played cords for years, but switched to a non-cord for last season. I thought I would like these, but I just don't. Nor do I like the black and red color scheme. Anyway, you're right, I should have just bought one.

Went to Golfsmith; nothing they can do. I am just going to play with them for a while and see if I start to like them better.

I think he's saying nothing they'll do to replace the grips with others free of charge.

They sell a grip remover that is a long blade with a T handle.

Put your shaft in a in a vice, using the rubber vice clamp, pry up the edge of the grip,
Squirt some solvent under and slide the blade down twist it around and the grip slides off

Golfsmith said there would be a charge to remove the grips (same as installing), they can't guarantee they won't destroy some of them, and of course, the cost of new grips and installation. In other words, they can't do anything for me that makes sense. I'm not upset at Golfsmith. But they would have gained a loyal customer had they been willing to help me out.

While we're on the subject of grips how do you know if your grips are the right size, when I hold my irons in my left hand all my fingertips touch my palm except my pinky, is that indicative of anything?

Golfsmith won't replace them for free, but if you know someone there (because you go there a lot) they might re-grip at no charge if you buy new grips there. I had a similar problem -- I took someone's advice and got medium grips on my clubs, which I'm supposed to have per the size chart (big hands); I hated how they felt though, and needless to say that feeling wasn't great for my game. I just re-gripped back to my old favorite Winn regular cheapies last week, and feel 100% better.

If Golfsmith doesn't feel your pain, your best option is to buy their re-gripping discount card. It gives you something like 28 re-grips for $48 (don't quote me, though).

Are you kidding?

You specified the grips you wanted. They installed them. Now you decide you don't like them. They offer to remove them and presumably replace them. This will cost you. Because it isn't free you say it "doesn't make sense". Give me strength. God I'm glad I don't work in retail..

Yeah, you kind of made your own bed here. Like I said, just play with them a few more times. If you don't like it, pick out some other grips. But spend more time picking them out next time
