Vokey Wedges (Spin Milled), which do you choose, Oil Can, Nickel or Chrome?

I wanted to try something different.

I bought three wedges from Vokey 52, 56, and 60. Just to fancy myself, I went with each look.

Oil Can, nickel and Chrome (doesn't look like chrome).

Originally, I had nickel for two of these and this time around, I wanted to try out Oil can and chrome.

Anyone have any experience with these colors, I know that the oil can and chrome or was it nickel changes color over time.

I want to see if anyone has anything to say about these colors.

I only have the nickel Spin Milled 52* and I love it, especially for short chips. I don't have the oil can but my friend does and it changes color over time. It gets rusty fairly quick if water gets on it or if you use it in the sand a lot......BUT......rust can be good/bad depending on the amount of spin you get from it. If you have a hard time spinning the ball and the club gets a little rusty on the face, then it will help spin the ball more. But if you can spin the ball pretty easily with a spin-milled, more rust (more friction) can cause problems. I golfed with a guy who had an oil can spin milled vokey and he complained about the rust on the club. I seen him in action with it and he hit a couple of good shots next to the hole only to see them spin off the green, no joke! I would be annoyed if that happened to me, but if you REALLY want the oil can, then get it in a 60* so that you only have to use it for finesse shots to fine-tune your accuracy. I haven't checked out the chrome but normally chrome is too shiny when setting up to the ball, especially on a sunny day. Hope thos helps!

I actually got the oil can 52. I will probably go back and change it to 60. I really wanted to try it out but the rust is actually scaring me. From the research I have done, I have read differing opinions regarding the rust and what it can or cannot do for you. Myth or fact? I don't know. I do like the look and if the look stayed the way it was supposed to be, then I would have kept it. Anyone else want to comment about this. I am really really contemplating of just getting rid of the oil can altogether and getting it all black nickel.

Prepare to be almost universally shot down. It has been shown several times that rust has little to no effect on spin.

There's nothing wrong with the oil can finish. I bought one used early last season and still have it today and there isn't even a touch of rust on it. I don't do anything special. Clean it with water and a scrub brush once a week or so and don't leave it wet. Hasn't even shown a sign of rust. The finish is a little worn off the bottom of the club and face, but that's about it. Looks the same as the day I got it otherwise.

Just bought Oil Can finished vokeys last week. a 52/08 and a 56/14, I picked them because I loved the look. We'll see how they wear.

I have a 54 and a 60 oil can. Bought both used, they have both rusted. When it gets bad I use very fine steel wool to take off the excess rust. I like the worn look.

I personally prefer chrome because its a more durable finish. The chrome is a protective layer, so the clubs dont rust as easily and the grooves dont wear out as quickly. Some people claim they dont like the glare you get from chrome, but even when hitting an open-faced flop shot I dont notice any glare.
Im personally not a fan of the oil can finish. I think it looks ugly. Nickel looks OK, but it doesnt offer the protection that chrome does.

Got oil can Vokeys. Honestly... Spin Milled + ProV1 = scuffed balls that spin back off the green :/
