A buddy of mine who just broke 100 for the first time last month, thinks he's a lot better than he really is and thinks he can beat me. We all met for our weekly foursome yesterday.

I birdie right out the gate and he doubles. I was like "ok..take your medicine". Then an alien came down and robbed me of my golfing ability!! The next 4 holes went down like double, bogie, double, par. He was having the round of his life and I was shitting away any credibility I once had haha. It continued for the next 10 holes or so until we were on 14 walking to the 15th tee. WE WERE ALL SQUARE!

15th: 424yd par 4 dead in the wind - driver sprayed right. hybrid bounced off the greenside hill and under a tree. only play was a chip to 20ft. putt....drained. He bogied

16th: 394yd par 4 wind behind - striped 4i to 155yds. knock down 52 pin high to 6ft. putt.....drained. Birdie. He pars.

17th: 200yd par 3 wind behind - rode an 8i to the front of the green. 2 putt par. He doubled.

18th: PAR. He claimed par even though he lost a ball, but that's another thread.

Me: 85 Him: 90?

Basically what I'm getting at is... have you guys ever had a terrible round, but something just clicked when it had to?? Are you guys closers? I never thought I had the mental strength, but now I'm starting to believe in myself.

Team competition, our club against another local club. Me and my partner playing modified chapman alternate shot. We get to 17 one up. 17 is a short par 3. My tee shot to about 2 or 2 1/2 feet. Partner chokes on the putt & we halve 17 when we should have been shaking hands. Walk to 18 tee still one up. We play my second shot to the green which is on but 25 feet from the hole (in modified chapman you both tee off, hit your second shot from your partners drive & the pick the best one and alternate from there). Our opponents are within 12 feet in 2. Partner leaves our 25 foot birdie putt 15 feet short (thanks). I drain the 15 footer. Opponents 2 putt. We win one up. Best finish I've ever had.

What's in my bag:
Driver: 905R 10.5* Stiff
Fairway wood: 904F 19* Stiff
3-PW: AP2 1* flat with Project X 6.0 shafts
GW: 52*SW: Vokey 56* LW: Vokey 60*Putter: Tri-ballBall: ProV1 (preferred) or PD Super Soft (when I'm feeling cheap)

damn, you can hit a 52º Wedge 155 yards and an 8 iron 200 yards?

well on the 8 iron he said 200 which was prolly to green center knocked it on front so about 180 dead downind so normal 8 iron is about 165ish

I started off 1-under thru 7 today, then the following happens:

8 is a short par 4 (about 360) - tight OB right with a fairway bunker at 100, big-ass pond left. Smart play is to hit an iron at one of the OB markers, which draws it right back in the fairway. I hit a 2-iron, pushed it a little right, just didn't draw it back enough into the bunker. Took a gap wedge and tried to pick it clean and out comes shankapotamus - OB. Had to drop one in the bunker w/stoke and distance - fat it into the greenside bunker and got up and down for a 6.

Parred 9 and 10, then hit one into a hazard on 11. Tried to scoot one onto the green from about 130, pulled it right smack into a tree trunk, the ball ends up about 30 yards behind me in the fairway - hit a wedge in and 2-putted for bogey. Parred 12, lipped out a birdie putt on 13. Chunked my tee shot on 14 (par 3), another bogey.

15 is a short par 5 (about 470) - dogleg across a waste area - it really should be a par 4. I hit a 3W about 300 behind a tree, had about 165 middle, 175 flag, and nutted an 8-iron over the tree to six feet. Eagle putt crawls right past the hole and comes to rest one-quarter of the way over the hole. In hindsight I should have waited 10 seconds to see if it dropped, but I went up and knocked it in for birdie to get back to +2. Left my approach short on 16, up and down. Drilled a 300 yard bomb on 17, hit a lob wedge to 4 ft, cashed it in, then parred 18 for a 71.

I was pretty disgusted about how poorly I'd played the first 14 holes, then I just said screw it and ended up finishing 2-under my last four holes - I definitely wanted to try and get us in the money, maybe that had something to do with it, not sure. When I really try and force the issue, it starts going south in a hurry.

Haha I never used to get that much distance with irons, but the mp37's are also a degree or so stronger than most clubs. And yeah, it was a pretty stiff wind.

If he's so full of pride and thinks he can beat you, he should have played you straight up.
Otherwise, let him go play with some other 28. That would have defalted his ego right there and then.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!
